Today we get to go home. Cason is physically okay, but not mentally. He is paranoid and does not want to be alone for a second. Ashton and I have switched off so that he and I can shower and get some food, but also so that someone is always with Cason.
I got out of the shower and dried off, brushing my teeth and getting myself together. We have a long drive home but we also had a very long night.
I stepped out of the bathroom and smiled at Ashton and Cason, cuddled up in bed and reading Cason's favorite book- Where the Wild Things Are. Cason was laying in Ashton's side, chewing on his baby blanket while Ashton's head rested against his. It was truly an adorable sight. It was a perfect dad and son moment.
While Ashton kept reading, I started to pack up our stuff to head out. We didn't have much to pack up, just whatever Ashton and I managed to shove in a backpack within a minute.
As I zipped up the bag, my phone buzzed with a text. I quickly grabbed it and read it over, seeing it was our realtor telling us that we need to be out of my house by tonight because the people who bought it wants to be in tomorrow.
I let out a groan, making Ashton pause and look up,
"The realtor said we have to be out by tonight. We won't even be home by then" I told him. He nodded slowly as he thought,
"I mean, everything is packed. Why don't I text our friends and see if they can grab it and take it to mine?" he suggested,
"I feel bad" I sighed,
"Baby, they know what's going on. They aren't going to care" he softly smiled. I nodded, giving in knowing we're going to need help,
"I'll shoot them a text," he told me, setting the book down and grabbing his phone which Cason did not like. He grabbed the book off Ashton's lap and hit Ashton with it,
"Cason no" I stepped in and grabbed the book, "We don't hit baby"
He started to pout and then the waterworks started. In the last day, he's been acting out and as soon as you correct it, he starts to cry. Last night we turned the tv off and he grabbed whatever was in his sight and threw it. I know it's just him trying to process everything but it's tough. You have to get on him for certain things but you also don't want to see him cry.
I gently picked Cason up and held him close as Ashton got up from the bed and grabbed the stuff Cason had out,
"You ready to go home bubba?" I asked Cason, kissing his head,
"Daddy house" he mumbled,
"That's where we are going" I promised. He nodded against my shoulder and Ashton tossed our bag over his shoulder,
"Let's get going. It's a long drive" Ashton spoke, kissing my head and Cason's, "We may need to stop and get a hotel halfway. He won't last 17 hours in the car"
I nodded and we headed out to the car. Ashton put our stuff in the back and I started getting Cason buckled. Cason flipped as I tried to fasten the chest piece. He kicked and screamed trying to get away,
"Baby, you have to wear the seatbelt" I sighed, feeling tears come to my eyes. I hate how scared he is,
"No leave me!" he yelled over and over,
"We're not leaving you. We're going to get you buckled then me and Daddy are going to get in the car and we are going to go home" I explained,
"Cas Cas" Ashton spoke up, calmly taking Cason's hand, "We're not leaving. We are never leaving you"
Cason nodded and I gently wiped under his eyes. He looked up and pointed to his mouth, making me sigh. Ashton handed me a pacifier which I gave him. The doctor said he'd regress in some way and he is- this is one of those ways.
Once Cason put the pacifier in his mouth, Ashton put a blanket over him and gave him his phone to watch tv on. Once he was okay, Ashton and I climbed into the front seats and we started the 17 hour drive home.
