Chapter 2
Four's POV
It's been 2 months since initiation ended and I am back at working in the control room.
Right now, I am walking down to the pit where Zeke is waiting for me, I don't know what for but I am still going.
I get to the place near the chasm where we usually hang out just to find him leaning on the railing, one push and he would be dead.
- Hey - I greet, my voice void of emotion, as always.
-Hey man - he says with a serious tone instead of the cheerful one he always uses.
-Why did you want us to meet? - I ask, heading straight to the point.
- Max asked me to tell you to go to his office.
- Why? - What could the main leader of the faction want with me? maybe he is going to ask me to be a leader.
- I don't know, but you should go, he is waiting - Zeke pats me on the back - good luck man.
And then he walks away. I don't know how did I manage to get such a good friend, someone who doesn't push me to tell him everything and that puts up with my attitud, and my lack of emotions.
I make my way to Max's office and enter without knocking, just to find him sitting at his desk.
- You needed me? - I say. I wasn't one of the scariest person in dauntless for no reason.
- Ah yes, hello Four - He greets.
I just nod and cross my arms over my chest and wait for him to continue.
- Well, last week - Max begins - one of our leaders fell of the train because he was drunk and well... he is dead now - I can see where this is going - we had to replace another one two months ago and now we need to replace this one, are you interested?
I mentally sigh, tired of this situation, I have never been interested before, what could have changed?
- With all respect, Sir, I...
He cuts me off.
- Think about it, you could still train initiates, you could work in the trainning area.
I ponder about this, I could change the way dauntless initiation works, I could teach the initiates what dauntless truly believes in.
- Ok. - I say.
Max head shoots up and he comes towards me, his eyes wide in surprise.
- What? - He asks in disbelief.
- Ok, I will be the new leader - I shrug.
- Excellent! - He says while clapping - I will see you at tomorrow's reunion. 8 O'clock, don't be late.
And with that I leave his office and head straight towards the control room. On my way there I see a girl with short hair with a boy, I recognize them from the last initiation.
- ... fine, where is she anyway? - The boy, Will, I think, says to the girl. Where is who?
- Abnegation - The girl, Christen or something like that, says. That word is enough to make me hate whoever they are talking about, how do they even know someone from abnegation? The only abnegation transfer is me and another girl that tranferred this year, but she is probably with the factionless.
I continue on my way. Soon I find myself in the control room talking to my boss, ex-boss now.
- So you are quitting? - He asks. I nod and shake his hand.
I am not Tobias anymore. The little boy scared of his father.
I am Four, dauntless prodigy, dauntless leader.
And I like it.
