Chapter 24
*Five months later*
Four's POV
Today is the day. The day when I have to put up with Candor smart mouths, know it alls and sometimes (hardly ever) stiffs and hippies. The choosing day. Last year I trained the dauntless born but this time I am going to take the transfers.
I am here waiting by the net for the initiates while Tris is gone. She is at the choosing ceremony, something about helping the newbies and seeing her parents. I am sure she is angry at me, I told her that I couldn't act lovesick when the intiates were around and she took it the wrong way. She thought I was ashame of her! impossible!. She is badass, smoking hot, selfless, intelligent, brave and mine.
A scream full of terror snaps me out of my daydreaming and I look just in time to see a blur of red fall onto the net. He bounces for two secs and then comes to a halt. I reach out my hand, just like the other people do, for him to take it. He takes Lauren's hand.
- What's your name? - I ask once he is on solid ground. He looks terrified for a moment.
- Derren - He whispers.
- Welcome to hell - I say in a low voice to make an effect. He shivers and I almost can contain a smile. - First jumper, Derren - I yell.
The dauntless start shouting and bumping the air. The amigy guy walks towards the wall just as another scream pierces through the air from above.
At the end, there are 11 transfers and 10 dauntless born. It seems like 2 Transfers didn't make it. I am about to yell at the transfers to shut up when I see a figure falling from above
Tris lands with a tud on the net and bounces almost to the hole of the roof. I strech my arms to help her down but she ignores them and gets out by herself. Yup, she is definetaly angry.
She stands by my side and gives me a smile that confuses me. Perhaps she is not angry after all.
- I'll see you at dinner - She says.
I mentally groan amd scratch the back of my neck.
- Well - I start and a frown appears on her face - I am going ti sit with the initiates...
She huffs in annoyance and marches out of the room while I sigh.
-Initiates! - I aknowledge them - I'll give a tour around the place that will be your home if you pass initiation.
- What do you mean!? - Cory, a candor, yells.
- You'll find out soon - A smirk makes its way to my face and I am sure I seem like the devil to them.
I quickly show them the place. The chasm, which scares the crap out of some, the pit, which causes multiples of gasps and stares, the training room and lastly the dinning hall.
- Welcome - I say and burst through the doors. Once they step in every member present starts bumping their fists, cups and even plates against the table and shouting. The initiates smile and I lead them to a half empty table, occupied by some dauntless born initiates (who are lauren's problem) and some other guys.
I sit and start munching my hamburger, trying not to stare at Tris but failing miserably.
- What did you mean when you said "if we pass"? - An erudite girl whose name I already forgot asks.
- You chose us, now we get to choose you - I use the words Eric used the past initiation. - If you don't prove to be dauntless then you are out.
I stand up before they attack me with questions and go to sit with Tris. I slide next to her but she ignores me.
