Chapter 4
Four's POV
The following day I wake up thinking about her, Tris, how she never looks at me, acting all dauntless with her piercings and tattoos, but under that thick cover lies a soft heart.
I go to the cafeteria to have breakfast and head to Zeke's table. I stop mid way when I notice a blonde girl sitting at our table. I get close and notice that is the other leader, Tris. How does Zeke know her?
- Hey, Four - Zeke greets me once I get to the table. Tris looks at me and gives me a small smile. This shocks me, I thought she hated me!.
- Hi - I say, taking the seat next to Zeke.
- Well, Zeke - Tris says - I gotta get going if I wanna be on time to the meeting. Don't forget to tell Uriah to meet me at my apartment at 8 pm, Ok? Ok.
And saying that she leaves, but not before giving me another smile, this time a little bit brighter, but it still did not reach her eyes.
-What was that? - I ask Zeke.
- Oh, Tris is the one that beat Uriah, she ranked first. She is a friend of him so she asked me to tell Uriah to meet her.
- Oh - I say and start eating my muffin.
- So what did Max want to talk about? - He asks just as I finish my muffin.
- Oh he asked me to be a leader and I accepted
Zeke's mouth hangs open and I just shrug.
- My best friend is a leader... paintball every weekend!! - He says, fist bumping the air. I shake my head, a small smile playing on my lips.
I feel a hand on my shoulder, I tense up and shake it, I turn around just to find Tris, looking at me with cold eyes, I can play that game too.
- Can I help you? - I say, my voice void of emotion, just like my eyes. This takes her by surprise, but she covers it pretty well.
- Yeah, I am going to Erudite, you know because of the meeting and you need to come with me. We are leaving in 10 minutes sharp - She says, and leaves, again.
I turn around and find Zeke looking amused, without a word I stand up and leave after Tris. This will be a long trip.
I go to the train tracks just as the train comes, but Tris is nowhere to be found. I run and jump when Tris comes into view. I reach out my hand and surprisinly she takes it.
- Thanks - She says, wincing a little bit.
- What weren't you here? - I ask - You left before me.
She looks at me with an "Isn't it obvious" look.
- I had to redo my makeup! -
I look at her and notice that she changed clothes. Now she is wearing a dress that comes just above the knees with leggings underneath and flats. Her makeup consists in a black thing on her eyelids and lipgloss.
We seat and she close her eyes, her breath is slighly uneven, almost as if she was in pain.
- Are you...are you alright? - I ask. She opens her eyes, her stunning blue grey eyes. - I saw you wincing so don't tell me it's nothing.
She sighs and pass her hand trough her hair.
- I haven't slept well in weeks, I have been attending to meetings all day since yesterday, I haven't slept at all and remember I fell off the train? - I nod - well I landed on my right side and it hurts like hell.
I look at her with sympathy and she just closes her eyes again.
We ride in silence until Erudite's buildings come into view. We stand at the edge of the train and jump. She shakes the dust off her leggings and takes them off. I stare at her legs, even though I saw them this morning, the sight is still increadible. Why am I thinking about her like this?
- Now what? - I ask, trying to distract myself with another thing. Where did she even leave the leggings?
- We are going to talk to Jeanine's representative.
- Why don't we just talk to jeanine?
- That's not how it works - She starts walking and I follow. We enter the main building, a library of course, and erudites look at us with curious eyes but mainly at me.
We manage through the halls, that look so alike that I am surprise we didn't get lost, until we reach a door with the number 26. Tris knocks and a red haired woman opens it.
- Tris - The woman greets.
-Jocelyn - Tris greets back. Jocelyn opens the door wider, letting us in.
We take a seat and Tris goes straight to the point.
- I am here to talk about changes that we could do to our initiation but I find it quite stupid, this won't get us anywhere so I need your opinion. - I am surprised by her choice of words.
- Well, you should change it if you want, what you defitnely should do is increase the number of dauntless doing rounds on the factionless sector and abnegation, because of the war and all.- Jocelyn says.
So she knows about the war. She might be working behind Jeanine's back. They keep talking about girly things.
- Thanks Jocelyn, I will talk to the dauntless leader. - They shake hands. Jocelyn ignored me the whole time until now, she looks at me, then at Tris.
- We can trust him - Tris says. I jump a little bit.
- You look tired - Jocelyn points out.
- I am - Tris says, looking pained.
- Nightmares again? - Jocelyn asks.
- You know me too damn well.
I am confused, nightmares?. I know the feeling, I still have terrible nightmares of my father that keep me awake. What could Tris be afraid of?
Whatever it is, must be pretty bad to make her break. Because even though she looks fragile, I have the feeling that she is almost unbreakable, almost.
