Chapter 29

Tris' POV

I cough and moan in pain as small pieces of concrete fall over me. I just ran ahead of a building and the bomb detonated, just like the previous did, but this time I wasn't fast enough. The impact hit me from behing and send me flying to the ground a few meters ahead.

I cough and crawl to the nearest building. I sit with my back on the wall and try to brush some dust off me. I hear a strange noise and at first I think is that beeping sound you get in your ear, maybe the explosion let me half deaf, but then I realize that the noise comes from my pocket. My walk-e talk-e or something like that.

- Yeah? - I answer, trying to catch my breath and ignore the increasing pain on my left leg.

- Tris - Four's voice says, he seems stressed - I need a favor!

I nod and then realize he can see me.

- Tell me - I let out in a sigh, I am too tired. I pass a hand through my hair and it comes out red. I am bleeding. This can't be good.

- We are in a dead end here and they have to climb a ladder to pass but the erudites are too close - He rapidly explains - there's still half the people to climb and there is no time. Can I send them to you?

- Four - I whine, suddenly angry. Angry at the erudites for putting me in this situation. Angry at Four for kissing me and confuse my feelings; and angry at me for letting him get to me when he broke my heart. - I have a job to do - I remind him.

- I know, but I really need you - He urges - they need you, please - He begs.

- Aghhh - I exclaim but I give in - send them to me.

- Thanks, where are you? - Hummm good question. I check my mental map and tell him where to find me.

- Two of my initiates will lead the group to you. - He adds.

- Just make sure it's not Chloe - I say then the line goes dead.

I close my eyes and try to ignore the pain and the wave of dizziness that washes over me. I slap myself to keep me from passing out and decide to get up. It takes time and it hurts but I manage to stand on both of my feet. I focus on my breathing until I hear faint steps coming my way.

I see them just around the corner. There are around 20 abnegation plus the two initiates, the pretty brunette and the amity boy.

- Glad you could make it - I say, sarcarsm dripping from my words.

- I am Samara - The girls says, ignoring my rudeness, and extending her hand for me to shake. I do - and this is Jack. - She says, pointing at the amity boy who is standing slightly behind.

- Nice to meet you - I say, then wave at the abnegation behind and my eyes move in search of my parents. They are not here. - Let's get going.

We start walking, getting out of my way because I can't exactly detonate bombs with all of these people behind me. So I take turns that will lead us to the haven in no time. But then I'll have to get back to finish my job. I am about to turn around a corner when I hear a noise. I lift my hand on a fist to signal everybody to shut up and be quiet.

There are two erudites standing there, emotionless faces and guns down.

I take my other walk-e talk-e and call Zeke.

- Zeke - I whisper and wait.

- Yeah?

- There are two guards in front of me - I whisper while receiving curious glances from the initiates - I need you to set off a bomb so they'll chase you or something.

- On my way - He answers and the line goes dead. A minute later a explosion not that far from where we are is heard and the guards run off towards the noise. I hurry everyone and we run until we are far from them.

The haven is just around the corner but I to get past it is necessary for me to detonate that bomb, to give them a free way.

- Samara, jack - I call. They look at me and I see fear in their eyes - I have to do something. When you hear a bomb go off, take this people through the dust, run until the end of the street and turn left. There there's a ventilation window. Knock three times, then two and then five then open the grille and slide down. Ok? - They nod so I signal them to get ready and start walking away but before I get too far I turn around - and please, tell Four not to come for me. I'll be there later.

- Are you two together? - Samara shyly asks, blushing.

- Something like that - I answer and run back until I am standing next to the kast abnegation. I get in position and start running, gaining speed so I can cross fast enough so the building won't crush me. I run faster and just as I cross the espace between the two buildings I hear a beep and the next thing I know I am flying through the air.

I wasn't fast enough.

I wake up what I think are minutes later to an excruciating pain on my righr shoulder. I find that I can't feel my right arm. I look down and see that my arm is twisted in a weird angle so I hoist myself up with my left arm. I get myself into a sitting position, my back resting on the nearest wall, and take a closer look at my shoulder, I dislocated it.

I just rest my head on the wall and a trail of something sticky goes down my face. A drop falls to my arm: blood. I have to get to the haven soon. I stand up, stumbling and hobbling and in a few minutes manage to get to the entrance of the haven. I knock, three times, then two and then five, just like I told the initiates and slide down.

Everytime my shoulder bumps into the walls of the ventilation tube I suppress a scream. I finally see a light and I fly out of the tube, luckly landing on my left side.

I look around and my eyes conect with Four's shocked expression. Some dauntless nurses rush to help and once again I find myself sitting with my back resting on a wall.

Four stares at me from across the room but makes no move to come close and I am grateful for that. A nurse comes and starts cleaning the cut on my forehead, then another comes and touches my shoulder, causing me to hiss in pain.

- Sorry but you dislocated it and I need to put it back - the nurse explains. I just nod and she takes my shoulder again and pushes the bone back in place. This time I cannot contain the scream that leaves my mouth. The nurse give me an apologetic look and then leaves. Just as the other nurse finishes cleaning and stitching my wound (which hurts as hell) Four comes and sits next to me.

I just lay my head on his shoulder and he lays his head on mine, grabbing my hand and lacing our fingers together. I close my eyes, ignoring the initiates surprised stares and the abnegation dissapointed ones.

I just let myself believe that everything is fine.
