Three months later...
Four's POV
I just need three words to describe the whole situation.
I am stupid.
I need her.
I love her.But the worst of all is a set of four words that I will always regret:
I let her go.
A knock on the door snaps me out of my masoquistic thoughts. I swing the door open to find a ever smiling Zeke.
- Hey dude! - He greets, letting himself in my apartment. I consider pushing him out but considering that I did that yesterday I let him pass.
- Zeke - I greet him. He has been my rock. My best friend. The brother I never had.
When Tris and I broke up I was a complete mess. I sarted drinking again, trying to drown my pain, and that made it worse. But Zeke made me understand that I can't just use alcohol to avoid my problems. That I have to face them.
I missed my best friend and even though I lost Tris. I have my best friend back and I am planning on getting Tris back but this time without letting my friend go.
- Wanna have some fun? - Zeke asks, raising an eyebrow and taking a sip from his drink that he probably took out of my refrigerator.
- What do you have in mind? - I cautiosly ask. Zeke's idea of fun can be dangerous.
- just hear me out. You gonna love this - he takes a deep breath and looks at me straight in the eye - Massive. Paintball. Fight.
He looks at me with a big grin on his face and I can't help grin back.
- So...you in? - He asks.
- Who gave you permission to do that? - I ask instead of answering, really curios about it.
- you will, of course - He says with innocense. I just shake my head, chuckling to myself.
- Ok, I am in - I say. I really need to have some fun, even thoug there's a big chance that I will bump into Tris. She would never miss a paintball fight. She loves them too much. I shake my head, trying to get rid of those thoughts and follow Zeke out. Closing the door behind me.
We go to a deserted part of the pit, that right now is full of dauntless people, some bare handed and others with their weapons. Zeke hands me one and starts walking toward the centre. I follow suit and people make way for us to pass, surround in us and leaving us in the middle of a big circle.
- Dauntless! - Zeke yells. His eyes are shining with the exciment he is feeling which becomes evident as he continues - Today, we are going to have fun while practicing on of our traditions - He makes a dramatic pause and then a smile starts slowly spreading across his face - Paintball!
Everyone goes crazy, yelling and stomping their feet against the floor. Zeke raises a hand and the noise ceases.
- Questions?
A hand shoots out of the sea of people and some of them move, allowing us to have a better view, which reveal a small girl with purple dyed hair.
- Who gave you permission to do this? - She asks. Her voice is emotionless but I can see curiosity in her eyes.
- I did - I answer, my voice booming through the silence.
- There has to be at least three leaders agreeing on this - the girl says with sass, no doubt a transfer from erudite.
- Well, Harrison agrees wih this and so does Four here... - Zeke trails off, noticing that the majority are reconsidering taking part in the game.
- You still need another one - the girl insists. She is starting to piss everyone off.
- You have my permission - A voice says, one I recognize too well. I look around until I find her in the crowd and she is staring right back at me. I don't know how long we stand there like fools, staring into each others eyes but she looks away and the spell is broken - what are you waiting for!?? Let's get this party started!
And saying that she proceeds to raise her gun and shoot the roof. Everyone cheers and quickly divides into large groups.
I get stuck with Zeke and Christina's blonde boyfriend.
- Let the game begin! - As soon as Zeke ends his sentence, gunshots and screams of joy fill the room. I shoot everyone that gets in my way, not caring if they are part of my team. Others start doing the same and soon it is everyone against everyone.
I am about to shoot Shauna when someone tackles me to the ground behind a table, a paintball lands where my head had been a second ago. I then take notice of the body holding me down to see a familiar blonde hair. She looks at me, confused at first and then it dawns on her, she blushes and tries to move away but I snak my arms around her waist and hold her close to me.
- Hi - I say, out of breath. I curse at my brain for saying such a dumb thing. Tris smiles and answers back.
- Hi
And awkward silence falls over us, filled in by the gunshots and shouts, but I can only focus on her. I decide to tell her the truth.
- I miss you - is all I say. She seems taken aback by my words and for a moment looks really uncomfortable.
- I...I miss you too - She finally says. And I see it in her eyes that is is true. She slowly leans in and I lift my head to meet her on the way and our lips touch.
At first we just stay there, still, she tenses up but then relaxes and opens her mouth. I deepen the kiss and grab her by her neck to bring her closer. The kiss turns into a desperate one. I need her, I can't lose her again.
- I am sorry - I say, breaking the kiss. She looks at me straight in the eye and a single tear spills. I take it on my finger and softly caress her face woth my thumb.
- And I forgive you - She whispers, smiling brighty at me. I give her a small smile back and notice the lack of noise. I look to my right and realize that the game is over and everyone is looking at us.
Not awkward at all.
