Chapter 28

Four's POV

This week was hard but it is finally over. I dedicated myself to train the initiates the best I could in case of the upcoming war.

The dauntless that were patrolling the factionless weren't trapped by the explosion so they get supplies and food from Amity and give them to us by the hole where the initiates jump to a net.

Tris has been avoiding me except for when we have to talk about leader stuff and it's driving me crazy. I don't want to lose her, she is everything I have and I just had to go and ruin it.

I in the training room, listening to the initiates chat about different fighting techniques they could use and other stuff. Suddenly the door bursts open, a thing that has been happening a lot lately, and Tris comes into view but this time something's different.

She is dressed in black tight pants, a leather vest and a two handguns are attatched to a waistband and a gun is hanging off her back. She has all of her piercings on and her hair is up in a ponytail. She is not wearing heels but combat boots.

- What's going on? - I ask, my eyes never leaving hers. She walk towards me and every step echoes through the silent room. They initiates are all standing in lije behind me.

- Erudite is going to attack abnegation - The ex- erudites in the group lower their heads in shame but I just stare at Tris not really understanding the situation - They are going to do it soon and we need to take them to the haven.

The haven is a place built underground with all the supplies needed to hide for a month and keep a whole faction there. It is equipped with air conditioning, food, blankets some rooms and of course bathrooms.

- When? - I ask, worried about the poor training the initiates have had and that they are now in the middle of a war.

- Now - And with that she proceeds to take guns from a bag that I didn't notice before she was carrying and gives them to each on of the initiates. - These are not toys, so do not act like fools. You are holding loaded guns. - She warns them. She looks at me and gives me one too plus a nice throwing knife.

- Thanks - I say with real gratitude. She smiles ans my heart melts at that. It's been so long since I made her smile. Unfortunately her smile dissappears to be replaced by an emotionless mask.

- We are leaving in 30 minutes. Be by the net by that time. No later. - And with that she marches out of the room.

- You heard her - I start - go to the dorms and change to more appropiate clothes. I'll do the same. GO! - I yell and they scurry out faster than a bullet and I make my way to my room, switching between walking and jogging.

I quickly change and exit the room as fast as possible and head to the net. I put on my bulletproof vest and my waistband with guns and throwing knives. I am tying my shoe laces when the initiates appear, all of them with their vestes on. The come towards me just as I finish and Tris apporaches us.

- Ready? - She asks. I just nod and the initiates do the same. She starts walking away and motions me to follow her. I go with her until we are out of earshot.

She takes a deep breath and places her hands on both my arms, her grip tight.

- Take care, OK? - She says, and I realize that she is scared, not for her but for me, she still cares.

- I will - I promise and she sighs in relief - but you have to promise me you'll be careful too.

She doubts for a second, and I know she has a tendency ti be reckless and sometimes too selfless for her own good.

- Ok - She mumbles. I step closer, grab her arms and wrap them around my waist. I aware of the initiates' stares but I don't care.

- Forgive me - I beg. She just stares at me and I see the doubt in her eyes.

- I already forgave you - She fibally says but before I relax she goes on - but that doesn't mean everything is going to be fine.

I nod in understanding even though my heart just broke.

- Let's focus on the things going on.

- But I may not see you after everything ends - I say. She looks at me surprised and I can't take it anymore.

I don't care if the initiates find out hiw big of a softie I am when I am with Tris, I want her, I need her, now. So I grab her face and smash my lips against hers.

Our lips move in sync, expressing everything. Is a desperate but sweet kiss, strange combination. I deepen it as her arms tighten around me and my right hand grabs the back or her neck to bring her closer. Too soon for my liking the kiss ends and the initiates have their mouthes open, some staring in awe, some looking smug *cough cough* Samara *cough cough* , and some looking angry (Chloe).

Tris lets go of me and walk towards Zeke, her assigned partner, without another word. I just wave the initiates to come and together we walk towards where everyone is gathered.

- So - Max says, shutting everyone up - it's time to assign the tasks.

"Four and the initiates, you are going to head to the abnegation sector and take everyone safe to the haven. You'll wait until Tris or Zeke gives you the thumbs up to take them there."

I nod and he just nods back then goes on.

- Tris and Zeke, you know what to do - At this, they stare at each other a smile, a wicked smile.

- What? - I ask, my curiosity getting the best of me.

- They will detonate the bombs so you can pass. They will run through the place to make the bombs go off and distract the erudite patrolling....

- Wait! - Derren, the first jumper, interrupts - They are erudite, they don't even knoe how to fight nor fire a gun, why are we afraid of them?

- because - Max spits, angry at the interruption - they are controlled by a serum that makss them perfect fighters trained to kills anything that looks different than blue.

Derren nods and shuts up.

- Let's go, there's no time to lose - Eric, who I just noticed there, says. I don't have time to worry about Tris job because she is the first one to be thrown out of the hole.

The war has begun.
