entering the big house, his ears were filled with chattering from inside, some of men and some of women. All the voices were familiar but the one female voice made his eyes light up and his lips curved into a small smile before walking inside the big living room.
his step-father, his step-brother, his mother and the special one his step-sister was present there and they were laughing until he reached there, Jacob and Andrew had already rolled their eyes after seeing him there but today he didn't care.
his mother's lips curved into small smile after seeing her son, and the young lady was also smiling at Maverick, he smiled looking at her and before walking towards her, he hugged her as she hugged him back.
after a few seconds, they both detached from each-other and sat beside one another.
"How are you?" Asked Maverick to his favorite step-sister, "Good, what about you?" She asked back smiling, "Good." , "I thought you would come at the airport to receive me, but you weren't there as well as at home too." she asked him, he nodded his head and apologised.
"You must be hungry? We have already ate dinner." She asked him softly, he shook his head in no, "I don't have appetite." Maverick stated, "You must have been doing loafing with your loafer friends." Suddenly Andrew spoke up and laughed at the end sarcastically.
Maverick glared at him but Andrew was not gonna notice it, "You shouldn't say this, rew." step-sister; Alba scolded him as he just rolled his eyes at her words.
"I-I will talk to you later, now I'm a bit tired." Alba nodded her head in agreement, he stood up awkwardly before going upstairs to his bedroom, he locked the door behind him and tears formed into his eyes.
Today, two hot coffees, one for me and one for you—" , "no, thanks."
he remembered his rudeness, how he acted with Alethea, tears slipped down from his eyes.
"why do i have to be good with you when I'm the baddest in others eyes! Huh! Stay away from me, I'm the brutal."
he remembered his words again and the way she flinched by his sudden voice raised.
—
she locked the door behind her of her bedroom, she was thinking about Maverick all the way back home and even now. She had completely forgot about her mother meeting her today but all she could think about was Maverick.
"Alethea!" A loud yell from behind made her startle and come out from her thoughts, she turned around and saw her grandmother behind her. "im calling you since you were at stairs and you're like you could not hear me, are you alright?" She asked concerned.
Alethea nodded her head in yes and sat in her bed, "wanna have dinner?" she asked, Alethea shook her head in no. "where's dad?" Alethea asked her granny, "he called me to inform me that he will be late tonight." granny informed.
granny then came and sat beside Alethea and asked her, "how was the meeting?".
Alethea sighed deeply and nodded, "good." , "What did she say?" Asked granny, "same old excuse: that it wasn't her fault." Alethea chuckled sadly at the end.
"you know what granny, she have a daughter." Alethea told granny, she held the hands of Alethea and looked into her eyes as Alethea also looked into hers. "We should forgive people." Granny said.
Alethea took her hands back from granny's, "At sometimes, even if we want to forgive but we can't. but granny, i have forgiven her already but i don't want her—" Alethea paused, "—back." she completed.
granny stood up from the bed, "it's okay if you think it's the right thing for you, I'm with you always." granny patted her shoulders before walking out from the bedroom again leaving Alethea alone.
Her mother was not the only thing that was bothering her, but the main one was Maverick's behaviour with her, the sudden change in his behaviour was suspicious.
she thought he would be a good listener for her and she would a good listener for him but now she thought he had ruined everything. especially her expectations.
