Alethea was confused about the sudden question asked by her father, she wasn't expecting this question to be the reason of him coming in her room because he doesn't used to come. She stayed quiet for some pretty seconds but then suddenly, "i didn't get your answer yet."
"Yes, he was." Alethea answered while she was standing in-front of her father, his father kept quiet for sometime but just then he stood up. "Try to stay away from him, i don't like you with him." her father was about to exit but just then she asked something that made him stop.
"why? didn't you use to tell me, that i should make friends, and when I've made one but you're telling me step back, why?" he turned around, with a small smile on his lips which wasn't a happy one, it was somehow scary.
"i didn't say to step back, dear. try to be friend with Andrew instead of that ill-mannered brat." with that he walked out, Alethea sighed throwing herself in the couch, with her hair grabbed in her hands out of frustration, she didn't know what was going on in the mind of her father she was just so pissed off.

Maverick knocked on the study of his step-father because the maid informed him that jacob wanted to see Maverick, and he had to talk something very important with Maverick, at first he was shocked and confused at the same time because HIS step-father wanted to talk something important to him.
he opened the door revealing himself to Jacob who was sitting in the sofa, with his legs crossed formally and professionally. Maverick walked in-front of him and just stared at his step-father to speak something.
"Good to see you, young man. have a seat" Jacob offered, Maverick knew there was something weird because Jacob's voice was gentle towards him for the very first time. After sitting down in-front of jacob, Maverick again looked at him to speak up.
"do you have a girlfriend already?"
Maverick frowned by the sudden unexpected question from Jacob, "pardon?" said maverick confused, Jacob chuckled before speaking again, "i didn't say a riddle though, you know the meaning of the word, don't you." it was not a question but a comment, he guess.
"why are you asking?" asked Maverick sternly, "I'm not your biological father, but a legal one, so it's my right to ask you about your life." as the statement from Jacob's mouth ended, Maverick was burst into laughers as if it was a joke, no doubts that it wasn't though.
Jacob just stared his stepson laughing at his words, but this time he showed patience not anger; he didn't slap him instead kept calm.
"Right, right to ask me about my life." Maverick repeated Jacob's words, "Look, stay away from the daughter of William," Maverick controlled his laughs when he heard Jacob, "she's not yours and can never be yours, if william would marry her to someone by his choice then it would be— Andrew, my son."
Maverick felt as if his soul was snatched away from his body after hearing those digging words from his cruel, mean step-father.
"William saw you at his house last night, you went to drop Alethea at her house, he told me to tell you to stay away from his daughter, so it'll be better for you and for her too." his step-father added.
Maverick processed the words that just uttered from his step-father's mouth, before smiling sadly.
"alright but—" Maverick paused and licked his lower lip, "—if Alethea, herself tell me that she is ready to get married to Andrew and not me, then i will surely step back and give up." with that Maverick walked out from the study of his step-father, leaving Jacob all stressed, "jerk!" Jacob gritted his teeth and cursed Maverick after he exited the room.
As Maverick came out from the study, he saw Alba standing right in-front and staring at Maverick.
"why did he call you?" she asked, Maverick tried to lie because he didn't want his step-sister to get worried about himself, but he couldn't lie.

"what do you mean?" asked granny eagerly, she told everything to her granny. "oh, now i see." Alethea frowned confusingly when she heard her granny, "w-what? what do you see?" asked Alethea wanting to know the thing that her granny knows but she was unaware of.
