Kai's POV (proofread)
"Alright bring it in" Coach Nelson says and I do one last lay up before grabbing the ball and walk over to coach with the ball in hand
"We have our first game of the year tonight...I need you all to be prepared and well rested for the game tonight...be prepared mentally and physically because this will set the tone for the season" Coach Nelson says as he looks at us
"Alright...hit the showers" He says dismissing us, I got to walk away but suddenly I feel a hand on my arm
"Stay behind real quick Overstreet....I just want to say that you have been impressive so far..your hard work here has not gon unnoticed which is why you starting so early but...I am putting a lot of faith in you..no pressure though" Coach says and I let out a little laugh
"I won't let you down Coach" I say and he nods before dismissing me and I head to the locker room I have to myself, I take a quick shower before getting dressed in my uniform but leave my jacket off and walking out of the with my stuff
"Hey Overstreet" I hear behind me causing me to around and see Brady Caswell , the captain of the basketball team
"Oh hey Brady wassup" I say with a smile but it's not returned but instead I get a disgusted look
"You know Coach only gave you the starting spot because he's clueless, you didn't actually earn it" He says bitterly and I look at him weird
"Pretty sure Coach knows what he's doing....If you disagree take it up with him not me" I say and Brady smiles
"I just may because...you don't belong here and I'll make sure you recognize that" He says as he comes closer to me and I smirk at him
"You can say that but my work...my effort and my consistency will show Coach I'm worthy" I say before walking away and shoulder bumping him on the way out
I see my parents car outside and I get in the front seat
"Hey baby, how was practice" My Mom asks as she drives off, I let out a sigh as I look to my mom
"It was good, I'm starting this game so I mean that's good" I say and my mom smiles and grabs my hand
"That's great Kai...but what's really going on" She asks and I lean back, she always knows when I'm not saying something
"Just some guy on the team actin all bitter because I'm starting, he's the captain and I got a feeling he's gon be an issue" I say irritatedly
"Well he and I gon have some issues if he thinks he can come at you because your starting, I don't like entitled people you know that...look just take it up with your Coach and have it settled" She says and I sigh as we pull up to the house
"I'll do that but I need to ice my knees a bit, thank mama"I say and my mom kisses my head before we both get out and head into the house and I sit my bag at the door before heading to the freezer and getting my ice bags and heading upstairs
