Chapter Twenty-Four: Almost

Kai's POV

I run down court with the ball in hand as I look for an open man, I see Josh in the corner and smile before driving to the basket

Finn tries to guard me but I nudge him a bit before doing a no look pass to Josh who catches it and shoots the three and laces it

"Let's go" I say and high five him before jogging up court, I look to the sidelines and see the cheerleaders watching us as they rest for a bit

I see Breah watching me closely but I lock back into the game, Coach has us practicing team weaknesses since the big game is soon, against Dalton of all schools but Carmel still has a chance to beat them

I stand in front of Puck as he dribbles sloppily in front of me but boxes me out and commits to the fade away he's trying to do but I smack the ball out of his hands and run after it down court

I catch up to it and slam it in the hoop before flexing and passing the ball to Finn who looks anger, I shake it off and remind myself that these are my teammates

Actually fuck that, if we finna win I'm not holding back

"Yo you lettin them have it" Isaiah says as he stands next to me and I laugh a bit

"Gotta do it to show them what we're up against' I say when suddenly Isaiah darts to one of their guys and blocks his dunk attempt before grabbing the ball and racing down court

I jog after him as he drives to the basket and knocks a poor guy over as he lays a one handed dunk down

He jogs to me and I dap him up and smile proudly

"I'm not gon be easy on them either" he says and smile

"You devious" I say causing him to laugh, the scrimmage continues and our teams are neck and neck, I pass to Isaiah and other guys on the team to get them more involved

Isaiah and I dominate and even gave some lobs to each other, the game ends with their team winning though and Coach Beiste blows the whistle and calls us over

"Great work team...especially you two....flawless work and I love the energy, we're all ready for that game against either Carmel or Dalton so get some rest...dismissed" Coach Beiste says as she points to Isaiah and I before dismissing us

We dap each other up and walk to the locker room talking about the moves we pulled and how we can do them in game

"Hey! Who do you guys think you are" We hear in front of us, Puck walks over to us angrily as does his little buddy Finn

"Excuse me" I say confused as to who they talkin to like that

"You both showed us up out there, we're a team, you can't just make us look bad" Finn says

"Yea we're the captains" Puck adds and I roll my eyes

"We're showin you how it's gon be in the big game so don't cry to us about being shown up...plus I'm just playin the game" I say as I walk to my locker and wipe my face with my towel
