Chapter Nine: Game Day

Kai's POV (proofread)

I sit in the boys locker room with the team as I adjust my warm up pants and my shorts underneath, Coach is giving us the pep talk but I'm not as engaged because I'm getting in the zone

"Let's go Devils" Coach yells and the team follows suit, we start leaving out the locker room when I look over and see Brady smirking at me and looking me up and down as does the guys around him

I just ignore them and plug my headphones in before heading out to get hallway with the rest of the team, we walk out to the gym and the crowd goes crazy and I feel the rush hit me now

I look up and see Mercedes causing me to blow a kiss at her as I do to my mom and dad who are settling next to her, I walk over to the bench and I start taking my warm ups off when suddenlyCoach stops me

"Overstreet...keep those on" He says and I look at him weirdly

"Coach the game is about to start and I'm starting" I say confused

"Not in the first half, Brady is then I'll put you in in the third" He says before walking away, I look at him in disbelief before seeing Brady take his warm ups off and head onto the court to shoot around

I sit on the bench feeling my blood boil as the second go on, that little shit got him to put me on the bench I know it, I look back and I see Mercedes and my parents looking at me confused and I shrug and look away

The game starts and we are getting creamed , Brady can't make a shot to save his life and  he won't pass either and when he does it gets turned over

Finally the third comes and I immediately take my pants and jacket off before getting up and walking over to Coach Nelson

"Ok Overstreet your in, don't disappoint" he says and I nod before walking onto the court, we start playing and I immediately go into overdrive

I race down the court as the other team tries to drive to the basket but I block him and strip the ball away before racing down the court and dunking, the crowd gets a little fired up as I just down and start playing defense

I race down with one of the guys and he tries to set a screen but I get out of it and block his three before taking the ball and heading down court, I see one player open and pass it to him and he hits a fade away jumper

I smile and high five him before going up the court, I look at the time and score, we're down 10 and we got 4 minutes left, I sigh and look around to see my team is struggling with defensive play since coach subbed in some of Brady's buddies who can't play for shit either

I step up and take the job on, as the game progresses I get blocks and rebounds constantly and I make my threes and miss a few, I look at the time again and we're up 2 with a minute thirty seconds left

I jog up court and I start getting hit with double teamed, as I try to find an open spot I box them out before hitting a fade away and luckily making it, we go back and forth as they tie with us

"Fuck" I say as I pass to my teammate and jog up court, we got 10 seconds left and we need to get this dub or we're gonna look like losers

I shake off my defender before getting open at the three point line, I call for the ball but this dumbass doesn't pass, instead he drives to the basket and draws a foul, I sigh and cross my fingers as I make my way to the line

I watch him nervously bounce the ball before shooting and air balling it terribly, I sigh in frustration as he misses his seconds and the buzzer goes off, we lost

I sulk as I shake hands with the opposing team and head to the locker room where coach gives us a stern talking too, I drink my water as I just listen to him rant before dismissing us

I grab my stuff and walk out to that hallway, i hear mumbles as some of my teammates who Brady sees to be close to, bump me as they walk past

I clench my jaw and walk out to see my parents and Mercedes who give me a hug and say it's gonna be ok, I sigh and hug them back and kiss Mercedes before grabbing her hand and heading to the car feeling like shit

I hate losing especially if it was preventable, if Coach hadn't changed his mind then maybe I wouldn't have had only 20 points this game, we would have gotten a groove going and Brady would have played only if we had a big lead

"It's gonna be ok baby you did great and you got next game" Mercedes says as she kisses my head and holds me close, I let out a breath and snuggle into her in the backseat

"I know....at least you got to see me play" I say sadly

Yea...got next game

A/n ok well I'd be pissed and btw don't be fooled by my basketball terminology, I am not that educated in basketball so don't flame me for it
