Chapter Twenty-Two: Apart of the Family

Kai's POV

I get out of the car with Mercedes as we head to her house to hang out this time, we haven't really been here since the summer and i lowkey miss her parents

"Great they both are here" Mercedes says causing me to laugh and kiss her head

"I love your parents, we'll be fine" I say and Mercedes rolls her eyes playfully before unlocking her door and walking in, I look around to see her father walking over to us from the living room

"Hey baby....oh look who it is...hey Kai" He says before kissing his daughter and pulling me into a hug

"Hey Dr Jones" I say and he gives me a look

"You can call me Daniel Kai...your family" Dr Jones says and I smile happily

"Thank you..Daniel...where Mrs.Jones" I say and just when I say that I hear footsteps coming  towards us and Mrs.Jones comes out of the kitchen wiping her hands with a towel

"There's my baby....Hey Kai" Mrs.Jones says and I smile as she pushes Mercedes out the way and hugs me causing me to laugh as Mercedes scoffs playfully

"Hey mom..my day was great... just brought Kai to hang out" Mercedes says sarcastically and we all laugh as Mrs.Jones greets her daughter before turning to me

"How you been baby, Mercedes' here told us you switched school today" She says and I nod

"Yea...Dalton was good but I wanted to be at McKinley for a better environment...well less toxic" I say and the couple just nods thankfully

"Well your staying for dinner and that's final, we've missed you baby" Mrs.Jones says before heading back to the kitchen to cook dinner I presume

Mercedes dad and I talk about basketball for a bit and how things have been while Mercedes' sulks on my shoulder, this happened after we met and hung out more

Her parents talking to me for so long and Mercedes wanting my attention back to her but the same happens when she's with my parents so she'll live

"Mercedes' baby can you help your mom for a bit, I have to talk to Kai alone" Dr.Jones and Mercedes' sighs

"Fine but please don't hurt her, I like this one" She says causing me to smile and I kiss her before she heads to the kitchen with her mom

"Kai....now I respect you and my daughter's relationship and I am so happy to see my little girl smiling genuinely and happy again...but I am very protective of my girl...of both my children but especially my baby girl" Dr Jones starts and I listen

"With that being said...I feel she is in great hands with you Kai....I've seen how you look at Mercedes' and I am so happy she found you...I really like you and I hope to see you stick around" He says and I smile widely

"I...I love your daughter sir and weather she knows right now or feels the same way and I don't know, I wanna make it clear that I respect Mercedes, you and your wife.....I don't plan on leaving and I will continue to treat Mercedes' right" I say and I see her father smile widely before putting his hand on my shoulder

"That's why I like you, I don't get that fake feeling from you...I see genuine feelings and thoughts around you...I'm glad we are in the same page" He says and I nod

"Can I have my girlfriend now" Mercedes says coming back into the room, I laugh and go to respond but Mrs.Jones comes into the room behind Mercedes

"Mercedes' over here is no help in the kitchen, Kai sweetie can you help me since you can cook" Mrs. Jones says and I laugh before saying sure and heading into the kitchen with Mrs. Jones

"She likes me more than you" I say to Mercedes who hits me playfully as I follow her mom into the kitchen

Mercedes's POV

I sigh as I walk back downstairs from my room, I put my stuff and Kai's away in my room just so when dinner is over we can finally hang out and have us time

I'm so happy I have my girl at the school and with me finally, I heard a little bit of the conversation my dad and her had, hearing her say she doesn't plan on leaving really made me feel so secure

More secure I've ever felt with someone ever and I really did get lucky, I may complain about it but I love Kai and my parent's relationship and watching them bond makes my heart melt

Like right now I watch as my dad pokes fun at Kai while she's helping my mom make some pasta recipes she wants to learn from that cooking show she's always watching

I watch Kai poke fun at my dads height and he tries to chase her around the kitchen but my mom scolds them and Kai goes back to her side

Kai is so invested in what her and my mom are doing and the smile she has when my mom directed her and praises her makes my heart burst

I wish I could tell her how much I'm falling for her...or fell for her since....

.....I love her
