December 23rd, 1995
There was no point of Christmas breaks, really. She'd just murdered someone.
Or Rhen had, bless him. When she'd hesitated with the gun and the man had nearly run away, looking terrified beyond comprehension, obviously wondering what he'd done to deserve a fate like that, Rhen had taken the shot.
How could he be so cruel? How could he kill him without a blink? But then again, she'd killed a lot of people without batting a lash, too. She wasn't someone to judge Rhen. But she hated it nevertheless.
Alasia would sell her soul like a Dorian Grey kinnie if it meant escaping this life.
She hummed to herself, an Elvis Presley song she couldn't get out of her head, her spatula removing the sticking pancake from the pan, and flipping it over to reveal a perfectly golden colour.
She smiled, thinking of how normal her life would look if someone from outside would need to view it. How, for the life of her, she'd be looking like a normal unmarried woman, waiting to meet a charming young man to start her life.
She was deep in these thoughts, humming now transformed to singing, when a knock on her door startled her.
Alasia shoved the pancake on a plate, because, priorities. Before picking up a gun and moving to the door. It was terribly dark outside, and a day before Christmas eve. Did they really have to hunt her now?
She hid at the side of the door, unbolting it before bringing the gun to her chest, holding it with both hands.
It was then, when the person stepped inside, dropping something heavy on the floor of her house when she announced the presence, holding the gun to the person's head, nearly shooting him before she gasped.
"HARRY!?"
"What the hell are you doing?" He was wide-eyed.
Alasia scrambled the gun away, quickly apologising. "Sorry, you scared me! I thought someone had come to – " She cleared her throat.
"Your job, isn't it?" Harry sighed. "It's a dangerous one."
"Quite," Alasia scrunched up her nose, locking the door again. "if it pays this well."
"Were you cooking?" Harry asked, dragging his trunk towards the table a few feet away. As if on cue, his stomach growled. His cheeks heated. "I haven't had dinner."
Alasia smiled in amusement. "I was making pancakes. I know it's a breakfast dish but, really, who gives a shit?"
Harry grinned, following her to the kitchen as she splattered more batter on the pan. "I'm sorry – I shouldn't have come unannounced."
"It's alright." Alasia smiled. "Considering you are here with an ancient trunk, I'm assuming you've run away. And the letters, they take a shitton of time to travel. It was in your favour tonight that I was home. I'll be leaving just after New Year's."
"It's a while before it." Harry stated. "I – I have run away. But for reasons different than what you're imagining."
"Oh?" She turned around, flipping the pancake over.
"Did I tell you of a certain dark wizard?"
"Villain of a Marvel comic?" She chuckled. "Yes, you did."
He grinned, too. "Well, he's after me. There's sort of – Merlin, I can't even start explaining, there's too much!"
"You don't need to, Harry." Alasia frowned sadly. "I understand you needed to get away. God knows there's been so many times when I've wanted to escape and hadn't had any place to go. I'm just glad I could do something for you that I've always wanted to happen to me."
