There was a dark mark above the school.

Sirius's heart froze instantly but he knew better than to ask Alasia to go away. Harry was not just his godson and she had every right to go with him. Only now it was his priority and his utter duty to ensure the security of his wife and child. And he would take care of them with his life.

They hastily walked towards the astronomy tower, the only place this spell could've been cast from without coming to someone's notice. Which was the most plausible explanation for the reason no students were screaming everyone's ears off.

It was late at night and the curfew would've applied by now having everyone safe in their beds. Alasia hoped solemnly that Harry was safe in bed, too.

"You can't walk up all those stairs." Sirius exclaimed. "Wait here, Lay. I'll be back in no time."

"Sirius - " Alasia grasped onto his arm, scared for his life more than her own. "What if there are -"

"Death Eaters can't come inside the palace. No matter how much we hate Dumbledore, he knows how to keep this school safe. Must be something a Slytherin student did to prove their loyalty."

As much as she hated the idea of Sirius going up there along, she nodded. "I love you, Padfoot. Be safe."

He kissed her in reply, "Promise me you won't move."

"I will be right here." She promised.

Sirius left in a blink, footsteps nearly silent on the stairs he'd crossed a million times in his Hogwarts years. Astronomy Tower was his favourite place - their favourite place. And now, she certainly hoped it didn't become a memory they didn't bother ever mentioning.

"It has been in it! I've been working on it all year, and tonight -" came the sound - dull but present.

Malfoy.

Fuck, Alasia screamed inside her pitiful mind. FUCK.

She didn't move, having promised Sirius but when she saw the first glimpse of a dozen death-eaters heading her way - or rather towards the stairs, the first thing she did was glamour her belly. Hiding the life force inside her, hiding the one liability she wasn't willing to have. The second thing she did was hide, not out of fear but strategy.

She needed to know what was going on in order to act, to protect her husband whom she'd idiotically sent into the nest of evil utterly alone. With Dumbledore of all people!

A red spell flew past her, blowing her hair in her face. A disarming spell towards one of the death-eaters. A shriek reverberated through the silent walls of Hogwarts - the ambush unexpected.

Soon, the voices grew louder with more and more engaging in the fight. Alasia dared to look past the pillar she stood behind, disillusioned.

Alecto and Amycus Carrow, Yaxley, and Fenrir Greyback himself. She thought she saw a hint of curly hair and unhinged laughter but she wanted it to be false so badly that she made herself believe it wasn't real. Antonin Dolohov stayed behind while the former four ran up the stairs, finding no use fighting with the student council of Hogwarts.
