Perhaps that was how love was supposed to work.

When Alasia made him hot soup and told him to wait a minute so he doesn't burn his tongue, he loved her.

When she caressed his cheek and kissed his forehead before muttering a sweet goodnight, holding him through his sickness, he loved her.

When she stood between his legs while he sat on the bathroom counter, shaving his face with an adorable smile on her face, being too careful so the blade doesn't hurt him, he loved her.

When she would sing, unaware to him standing just outside the kitchen as she hummed while cooking, he loved her.

When she nestled her face in his chest, letting him hold her at her weakest, trusting him with his life, as fragile as it was, he loved her.

And he loved her when her hair were messy and her eyes red, he loved her when there was a smirk on her lips and her legs crossed smugly, he loved her when she was curled into a ball – afraid of the dark that has cradled her, he loved her when she squinted her eyes at the sun – too afraid to let go, he loved her not only with lust but with spirit, with soul and with heart, he loved her as they danced and tumbled over each other – too drunk to watch their steps, he loved her as she appeared – dressed in all white and he knew then, that gods could not have disappeared because she looked no less than one with her emerald eyes shining with an amber circle, her dark lips smiling as though she had just won the world for herself, he wouldn't be surprised if she had.

Alasia Serpens walked down the alter, towards where he stood in his all black attire. Her eyes were glistening as she held closely on the arm of her brother, Altair, who in turn was glaring at Sirius.

He'd never had a sister, but he imagined he would be just as protective over her as Altair was over Alasia. He only wished Regulas was here to see this, that he was there for his brother's own wedding.

Alasia grinned at him, her pearly white teeth under the winter sun as she took clinking steps and when she was near enough, Altair let go of his sister – to be wed. Too be wed to him.

Sirius felt his breath hitch, she was so beautiful – so, so beautiful that he could not breathe, could not do anything but look at her through glistening eyes – as a tear escaped, but he did not care, could not, could only look at her, hoping he'd never have to remove his gaze.

She seemed to be in a similar predicament for her own eyes were threatening to spill tears that were already welled. She glared at him as though it was his fault she was nearly about to cry and he laughed through the tears, feeling unconditional affection towards her.

"Vows, Sirius."

Sirius broke out of his reverie and nodded, inhaling deeply as he readied himself to say the words that had been caught inside his heart since the day he knew he had to marry her, that he'd die alone if it meant not being by her for all his life. But he wouldn't – couldn't love someone like he did her.

"Alasia," He started and she let out a sob already, he rolled his eyes but cries were prickling behind his throat, too. "When we met, we detested one another. We called each other every kind of slur we could ever think of," Remus laughed. "yelled each other's heads off. But through the years, when sometimes you were not with me, I realised...that I never really hated you. I have been infatuated with you since the first day I'd seen you sitting on the Sorting Hat's chair like it were a throne," It was her who rolled her eyes this once. "and I knew then, that you were trouble. I knew that if I went through with it, I would come to love you. You were so difficult, and yet the easiest thing to adore. It was as though you were only waiting, for someone to realise the key to your charade and when I did, you were the open book one would never imagine you to be.
