Y/n sat on the root of the large tree with D/n next to her. Her fingers absence mindedly played with her pendant. The large nightfury was curled around the tree napping as it's soft breathing blew her hair lightly. It was only during the night did the large nightfury leave the den to take flight. The younger ones, the ones closer to Toothless size, where currently bounding across the branches. All but one of the nightfuries. The solitary male had chose to sit next to Y/n and D/n.
D/n gave no protest as the nightfury press next to Y/n as it fell into slumber. Y/n felt a longing to go back to Berk. Stroking the nightfuries back gentle, the thought of Toothless hit her. She wanted to go see Toothless again. She wanted to see Hiccup. Her buckle felt so heavy now. She was happy to still have it, and she could only wonder what would have happened if she didn't.
Y/n sniffed catching D/n attention. Sitting up, D/n nudged her gentle. The nightfury stirred and looked over to see Y/n crying. Shifting and moving away so D/n could offer comfort, the nightfury gazed worriedily. It's amber eyes reminded Y/n that this wasn't Toothless. Gazing into the trees where the other four were, she sniffed again. Blue, light blue, pale milky white eyes showing it's blindness, and red. But no green. Even the large nightfury had a different color. As if on que, it peek its vibrant orange eyes at her.
She did want to go back to Berk, but she couldn't. Her back severed as a reminder of what happened. Y/n felt an ache in her abdomen as fresh tears slipped threw. Another reminder of what happened. Y/n felt sick. Her throat started to throb. Not like everyone would welcome her either. She was an outsider. Y/n gasped in a breath of air as memories surfaced.
D/n rumbled and nudged her again. Y/n turned and clung to his feathers as tears fell. She shook as she remembered where she was. She wanted nothing more than to go back, but going back meant explaining why she hadn't been able to return. Going back now after spending a year with Ares and his people, Y/n wasn't sure if she could do it. Especially with her nightmares.
After her time as a slave, Y/n tried desperately to forget what happened, but the nightmares held a constant reminder. Her scars. Her appearance. The emtpiness in her belly. Y/n felt even worse. All of Berk would look at her differently. Hiccup would never look at me the same way again. This had Y/n crying harder. D/n huffed and wrapped his wings around her as she cried.
It was hours before someone approached her. Y/n, wore out from crying, looked up to see Liu walking over with Moonstone. He sat himself next her as Moonstone nudged D/n. D/n purred and nuzzled her lightly.
"Ares asked me if I wanted to go back to Berk," Liu whispered softly. "He said he asked you too."
Y/n didn't lift her gaze. Liu glanced over feeling his chest ache for his friend. It hasn't been easy, but Liu had his guess on why Y/n said no. Liu did want to return, but that meant explaining things. Reliving. They feared the relationship dynamics would not be the same. Everything would be different.
"He also said you shook your head and ran," Liu continued, looking to the amber ceiling. "I have a guess that the reason you ran was because you weren't ready to face Hiccup."
Y/n sniffed and curled up as she began to cry again. She was tired of crying. She really was, but she couldn't get herself to stop. Liu flinched at the sound, but moved over and hugged her. Y/n had clung to him as she cried heavily on his shoulder.
"It'll never be the s-same.." Y/n cried heavily as the reality hit. "It's wh-y we left when we first tried to return."
Liu frowned heavily, holding her closer. He understood what she meant. It wouldn't be the same anymore. Not after what they went threw. Especially if the nightmares continued. Liu hated being right when it came to this idea, but they couldn't hide from it either. Nothing will ever be the same again.
