A Race To Kings (Hiccup x Reader) On Hold

Chapter 8

Hiccup and his friends had just settled at Berk for the anniversary after being greeted by Stoick. Astrid and Heather were discussing show plans considering Hiccup wasn't interested in telling his father about the bounty. Snoutlout, the twins, and Fishlegs had joined in as Hiccup headed off to get some space from the gang.

He did want to talk to his father. He wanted to know if he found Y/n or not. Walking to his hut, Toothless trailing behind, Hiccup walked in to find Gobber talking to Stoick. When Hiccup entered, Stoick knew exactly what Hiccup came for.

"Give us a moment Gobber," Stoick stared at Hiccup thinking of what to say.

As Gobber left, Hiccup waited for the door to shut as Toothless laid next to the fireplace, watching curiously.

"Did you find her?"

Stoick sighed and nodded slowly. Hiccup's eyes grew large as tears slowly formed.

"I-is she okay? Is she alive? What about Liu?" Hiccup asked, approaching his father anxiously. "Do you know what happen? Where is she?"

Stoick held his hand up to stop Hiccup's questions. Hiccup faltered, but awaited answers.

"Y/n is alive. I spoke to her myself. Liu is alive, and mostly well," Stoick started and quickly silenced Hiccup to continue. "I've invited her to the party. I need you to listen to me carefully son. Y/n isn't the same person. Neither is her brothers or Liu."

Hiccup eyes grew. Astrid would be thrilled to know Liu was alive. Everyone would be. Then the realization hit.

"What do you mean, not the same?" Hiccup asked skeptically.

Toothless rumbled his concerns, looking to Stoick.

"They have been threw a lot since they were attacked, son. They haven't recovered fully," Stoick explained. "It's why they haven't come back."

Hiccup stared at his father, relived they were alive, but concerned on what had happened to them.

"Thank you, dad. So there is a chance I'll see them?" Hiccup asked, eager to actually see his friends again. "Tonight? At the celebration?"

Stoick nodded. Hiccup grinned and embraced Stoick, unaware of the tears that had started to fall. As Hiccup sobbed in relief, Stoick held him close. Toothless rumbled and snuggled deeper into his spot content.

Y/n and Liu had woken up side by side with Ashaw's back pressed to Y/n. Addily had her own back pressed to Liu as Ares laid next to her serving as the small spoon to Salem. Y/n glanced over her shoulder to find Ashaw still sleeping soundly as Liu carefully rolled on to his back to see the pink and orange sky.

They still had quite a flight to go. With that in mind, Liu sat up and rubbed his eyes before nudging Addily. Y/n had carefully done the same to Ashaw, mindful of when he came up swinging.

"Easy, Ash. It's just me," Y/n yawned and stretched as Ashaw looked over guilty.

"Sorry.. I thought I was.."

Ashaw slumped and shook his head as Y/n rubbed his shoulder. Liu understood, seeing as he was woken by his own nightmare. It wasn't as bad as before, but it still unnerved him. Seeing that insignia again stirred old memories. No doubt did the same to Ashaw. Liu wondered if Y/n had her own nightmares.

Looking behind him, Liu found Addily turned and snuggled into his side to get comfortable again. Liu shook his head and nudged her again.

"Five more minutes," Addily grumbled snuggling closer, arm dropping over Liu's waist.
