The ride to Berk was filled with questions that Ares had answered in Liu and Y/n's stead. They weren't even halfway there before Atlas had finally spoke up.
"Why don't you let them answer?" Atlas voiced, Throk behind him nodded in agreement. "They can speak for themselves."
Ares looked back to Atlas, his head tilting slightly. His face may have looked clam, but Atlas and Throk had flinched seeing the seething fire burning behind Ares eyes.
"Y/n, Liu. Do mind if I answer the questions for you?" Ares did not once take his eyes from Atlas or Throk.
"I'd prefer if questions weren't asked," Liu muttered quietly, urging Moonstone away from the others.
Y/n said nothing and followed as if to silently agree. Everyone looked to them as they flew a moderate distance ahead of them. The twins, Snoutlout, and Fishlegs looked to each other, as they had been the ones asking so many questions. What they asked though was on everyone's mind.
What happened to them? Who were they attacked by? How'd you end up disappearing for so long? Are you okay? Why do you guys look so different? Did you lose weight? Why didn't you come back? How long were you with Ares? Who's the nightfury? Who's Ares? How long have you know Ares? Are those scares? What were the scares from?
The question were on and on, and Ares kept all his answers vague or short. Y/n and Liu appreciated it, they did, but the questions were why they didn't want to go back to Berk. Being asked everything now after so long of trying to bury the past wasn't easy. They both tried hard to forget. They just wanted them to be happy they were even alive. That they came home.
"Well, there you go. They spoke for themselves," Ares gave Atlas and Throk a smile. "Happy?"
Neither spoke as Ares patted his nightfuries side. The nightfury rumbled and looked up to him.
"Alright then. I have somewhere to be. I ask you respect their wishes about them not wanting any questions asked. Oh, and be sure to let Y/n and Liu know I'll be back tomorrow," Ares had flown off before anyone could reply.
Once Ares was far enough away, Atlas spoke up.
"I wouldn't trust him if I were any of you," Atlas muttered, eyes holding anger.
Everyone looked to Atlas, confused. As far as they knew, Ares had been nothing but helpful.
"I have to agree with Atlas on this," Throk spoke up. "Ares isn't as kind or as good as he seems."
"What do you mean?" Stoick asked, eyes narrowing. "Ares has looken after Y/n and Liu, as well as many others."
Atlas and Throk glanced to one another before looking to Stoick.
"Ares's mother is head of the slave trades. She has been for over a decade," Atlas paused, glancing over to were Ares had flown off to. "Ares had worked under her for years. I doubt, even if he is a runaway, he'd really go against her. Worst come to worst, everyone he's 'helping' will continue to be under threat."
"He'll probably turn everyone over if things go wrong," Throk muttered.
Everyone looked to each other, on edge now. As they picked up the pace, they had made it back to Berk in silence. Immediately, Astrid and Hiccup had went to find Y/n and Liu, the rest of the gang behind them. Throk bidded them a farewell before using one of Berks boats to get home.
They found Y/n and Liu easily enough with their dragons, pacing around the chiefs hut.
"What are you two doing?" Snoutlout asked, tilting his head to figure put what they were looking for.
