Jacklyn

I woke up with a throbbing head, the sunlight piercing my eyes like daggers. Groaning, I sat up in bed, scratching my scalp as I tried to piece together the fragments of last night. The last thing I remember was...fighting with Jeremiah.

And then...nothing. My memory was a blur.

"Fuck it," I muttered, rolling out of bed and stumbling into the bathroom to freshen up.

After splashing cold water on my face, I headed downstairs, following the smell of food. There was Jeremiah, standing by the stove, effortlessly cooking breakfast as if last night had never happened.

"Good morning, bro," I greeted him, trying to sound casual.

He looked up, flashing me a smile that could melt ice. "Good morning, baby, but..."

"But?" I prompted, raising an eyebrow.

"Not your bro," he said, leaning on the kitchen island, his eyes locking onto mine with a playful smile, a teasing look dancing in his gaze.

"Okay, bro," I shot back, chuckling at the way his expression shifted from flirtatious to annoyed in a heartbeat.

"Breakfast?" I asked, nodding toward the food.

"Not for you," he replied, turning back to the stove.

"Why...?" I whined, dragging out the word.

"Because you're disobeying too much, just like last night."

Last night. Yes, last night...what happened?

"What happened last night, Jerry?" I asked, trying to hide my unease.

"Don't you remember anything?" He turned to face me fully now, a hint of concern mixed with amusement.

"We fought," I said slowly, searching his face for clues. "And then...I don't know."

He laughed, gently tapping my pouty lips. "You're hopeless," he said, placing a tray of food on the island. "I have to go home, baby."

"Why...?" I whined again, feeling an odd sense of dread.

"You said we were going somewhere," I reminded him.

"Sorry, baby, I've got work to do."

"What work?"

"I'm a CEO of a company," he said, as if that explained everything.

"So?"

"What do you mean, 'so'? I have responsibilities."

"Okay..." I muttered, not entirely convinced.

He flashed his handsome smile again, the one that made me forget my irritation. "Stop pouting, baby. I'll try to come back tonight."

"What do you mean 'try'? How can you leave your lovely, beautiful friend alone at night?"

"I have work. Understand me."

I followed him to the door, not wanting him to leave. When Jeremiah was getting on his bike, Ren appeared, returning from his morning jog. The moment Jeremiah saw Ren, his whole demeanor changed. He turned to me, his voice sharp.

"Get inside."

"Okay, bye, Jerry," I said, feeling the tension between them.

"Get the fuck inside, baby," he repeated, his tone leaving no room for argument.

I glanced at Ren, then back at Jeremiah. The air was thick with something unspoken. Reluctantly, I went inside and closed the door, curiosity gnawing at me. What was the connection between Ren and Jeremiah?

After finishing breakfast, I headed upstairs, lost in thought. As I reached my room, my phone rang. I grabbed it, seeing my brother's name flash on the screen.
