Steven always reads before bed
He used to do it at his desk, but now that he has you, he sits up against the headboard with a book in his lap while you drift to sleep next to him
He has a book of Egyptian legends and myths you're particularly fond of, because he once found one story he liked so much, he had to read it out loud to you
And as soon as he started reading it was so mesmerizing
His voice was so warm and soothing, and he articulated each word so beautifully with his accent
While also putting all the right emotions into every sentence
He could have been reading the shopping list to you and you still would have wanted to listen for hours
And on top of it all, he looked so cozy doing it
Reading glasses on his nose, the lower half of his body comfortably tucked under the blanket, his fingers gracefully turning the page from time to time
You looked up at him from your pillow, unable to tear your eyes away until your eyelids started to droop
There was only one more thing you would have liked as you drifted off to sleep
So you took his hand and tentatively placed it in your hair
Steven made a sudden pause, looking down at you with a soft, slightly confused smile
But you were already nuzzling the pillow with your eyes closed, waiting for him to take the hint
"Go on," you encouraged sleepily
He did, and you could hear the smile on his lips as he resumed reading
This time with his fingers gently running through your hair, making your skin tingle under his touch
His hand left you from time to time, but it was only to turn the page
And he went back to caressing your hair immediately after
The lightest tugs on it felt like heaven
He loved it just as much as you did, so he's been doing it ever since whenever you're cuddling
