It starts when Marc is in desperate need of help in your area of expertise. All the tactical training in the world still sometimes can't hold a candle to book smarts, and Marc has just come across this piece of advanced tech that influences a lead he's following.

Of course it's fucking broken, though.

You come highly recommended from a contact who knows their shit- Marc's not gonna deny that your resume is impressive. He's already a little intimidated when he shows up to your office and it opens into an entire fucking laboratory, hermetically sealed doors and all.

Marc's astounded, because he couldn't figure out how the hell it works, but you've just looked at it for two seconds and you know the entire history of the object in your hands. You're just that good.

He watches you pulling up a bunch of schematics on it like it's nothing and he's almost startled that he finds it extremely cool.

Of course he asks you on a date after you've fixed the broken pieces and given it an upgrade.

The first date is a little weird, because what does an astrophysicist-bioengineer-PhD-genius do in their free time? Turns out the answer to that is the British Museum.

Steven is screaming and jumping around like a kid on redbull the whole evening. He's giving Marc little pointers and trivia about Egyptology so that Marc can relay it and impress you, like the world's most dysfunctional game of telephone, and it fucking works. How does it work?

The first date turns into a second turns into a third, and that's when Marc realizes he's kinda sorta in a relationship with you, and furthermore that he cares about you.

The thought terrifies him.

Not that he doesn't think you can handle yourself, but he's really hesitant to get you involved in his line of work, and further to get you involved with all the stuff to do with Khonshu.

Its the fourth time you spend the night at Marc's flat that you wake up to Steven instead. And Steven being Steven explains everything to you.

You further astound both Steven and Marc, because you not only understand, you take it in stride.

(I mean, what with the Avengers and Thanos and the Snap and then the one Celestial appearing in the sky that one time, you're kind of desensitized to the idea of gods and monsters)

Marc is still super hesitant to keep seeing you now that you know, but he just can't let go of you.

There are times when he almost feels inferior; when you can come up with the solution to a problem he's spent an entire week trying to get to the bottom of, and he retreats into himself because he doesn't want to seem like an imposition to you.

When you find out that's what he's worrying about when he closes himself off, you're almost ready to whack him on the head with a stick (affectionate)

Because you may be able to figure out x, y, and z about technology and engineering problems, but when it comes down to tactics? Understanding how literal Gods work? You haven't got a clue. And you tell him as much.
