Janet was helping me with my essays. At first I was skeptical because if I get a bad grade it'd be nobody but my fault. Because I know I could've done it myself. But, she offered and I knew if I said no she'd sit and be anxious and feel dumb for asking, so I let her. Plus, it was just a report on a science experiment we did. I also gave her the rubric and all the information from my experiment. So basically she was just typing for me.
As much as I didn't want to, and had planned to do the complete opposite. I was starting to like Janet, as a person. Her being my friend was a bit of a stretch as of now but I did enjoy her company a bit. Instead of finding her anxiety and stuff annoying, I was starting to find it slightly cute. Which, as a soon to be therapist, that's kind of weird.
But she was always so focused whenever she was tapping her thigh or counted her fingers. And I'm assuming her staring at me, or anything else she found interesting was becoming a new coping mechanism. Earlier in class she was talking to herself about how interesting my face was.
If she'd said that when she first got here I most likely would have told her to shut up talking to me. But, I just let her rock since it kept her calm. I was basically done with my other assignment so now I was just waiting on Janet. I started to get hungry so I just got up and went to order something. I forgot I didn't eat anything yet.
Ordering a plain bagel with cream cheese, and coffee, I got Janet the same thing. Which, might I add is something I'd never do. I didn't spend my money on anybody. I waited in line for it to be done and paid. By the time I got back to the booth Janet and I were at, she looked done too. Her head lifted from the computer and she waved at me.
Why doesn't she just say "hi"?
Anyway, I gave her the coffee and bagel and sat down. "I don't know what kind of coffee and stuff you like but it would've been rude had I came back with nothing for you." I told her. Since when did I care about being rude?
"Uh, thanks." She mumbled. "I finished your paper. I emailed it to you. If you don't like it I can do it again--or, like, I don't know--sorry." She rambled.
"Calm down. I'm sure you did fine." I reassured her while opening my email. I read over the paper and it was actually better than fine. Great even. I gave a smile and shook my head at her.
"Why're you always trying to play yourself? You're a pretty good writer, Janet. Even though this is just informational, it's still great." I complimented her. I watched as her cheekbones rose higher on her face and she shied away.
