Vulpecula Lupus Black. An interesting name she must admit, but according to her uncle Remus, most of her family had been named after constellations. Her father, sirius, being one of them.

Her father, accused of murder and association with the Dark Lord, Voldemort. She didn't believe this, neither did her uncle Remus, but what they believed was not important.

Sirius had been in Azkaban for twelve years,  and her mother died in childbirth, leaving baby Vulpecula to be taken in and raised by her Godfather.

They lived in a muggle town just outside of London. Remus wanted Vulpecula to have a childhood where she was accustomed to both the muggle world and the wizarding world, she was a halfblood after all, the first Black to be anything but pureblood.

Remus had reared her into a young lady, one of intelligence, adventure and determination. She was headstrong and opinionated, but loving and caring to those who deserved it from her.

Vulpecula was what Remus liked to call withdrawn. She had to admit that she wasn't the biggest people person, she would seek being alone where possible, but would be a bubbly ball of energy around the select few who brought it out of her. The Weasley's being an example of this.

Remus knew the Weasley's through the Order of Phoenix, a group that, for many years, had been apart. With the Weasley's having children around Vulpecula's age, Remus made effort to ensure she grew up around children like her.

Vulpecula and the four youngest Weasley children soon became a tight-knit group, so much so you'd think she a tenth Weasley herself.

On her 11th birthday, 4th june 1991, Vulpecula woke up in the early morning, unable to sleep through her excitement; this birthday was a special one and she knew it. Upon waking Remus up at an unreasonable hour she rushed down the flight of stairs and slid across the hardwood floor in her socks. Turning to face the living room she was frozen in place at the sight of presents placed across the red-rug-covered floor before the white fireplace. The brown oak coffee table that usually stood in their place had been pulled away from the fireplace so that it no longer was between the two soft sofas.

She had begun to open presents immediately, ripping through the tissue paper and ribbons that contained all the goods. From Remus she had been gifted a book of poetry written by a muggle with the name 'John Keats', Vulpecula had skimmed that very book the week before when she and Remus were on a summer afternoon walk through the town centre.

Vulpecula opened the front cover and found a note written on the first page, from her Godfather.

'Little fox,
how well you have grown, how far you have come.
I am so eternally proud of you my dear, your mother and father would be amazed by the beautiful young lady their daughter has grown into and continues to become.
You need not fear, little fox, for you will find your footing in this world and flourish, I am sure of it.
I love you with all the stars,
Uncle Remus '

Vulpecula grinned up at her uncle with tears in her eyes, giggling at her emotions. She knew that moment that she would cherish this book for the rest of her life.

Remus, loving to spoil his Goddaughter, had also purchased her two necklaces: two silver chains, one holding a silver pendant that held the engraving of a fox head surrounded by stars and am the moon in the corner of the small rectangular plate of silver, the other holding a silver ring sporting the face of a lion. The ring would be far too large for Vulpecula's petite fingers and so remus had thought this way she could still wear it on her person.

"belonged to your father," he said as she ran her soft fingertips over the rings details "thought you'd like to have it" Remus said with a smile on his face.

"I do, I really do." Vulpecula lifted herself off of the floor and gave her uncle a warm embrace where he sat on one of the sofas, "Thank you Uncle Remus" she mumbled into his shoulder and his arms wrapped around her.

"Come on now sweetheart, open the rest" Remus let go of her and gestures to the pile of gifts that sat awaiting their turn to be opened.

Another gift of Remus' included a set of four bookmarks, each one sporting a moving picture from her childhood. Vulpecula beamed at the bookmarks that held such fond memories.

The weasley's had given her a hand-knitted jumper, it was a dark forest green colour sporting a golden 'V' on the chest. She had always wanted one like the Weasley children, and green was her favourite colour, it was so nice of Molly to remember that.

Not to anyones surprise, Vulpecula received her acceptance letter from hogwarts that very morning. As Fred and George had a year earlier, and Ron in March of that year. Despite her knowledge of her magic, she was nonetheless over the moon.

That day, the newly eleven year old girl and her Godfather spent hours baking, playing muggle and wizard boardgames including wizards chess and scrabble, made plans to go and get all of Vulpecula's necessities for Hogwarts the next day and writing letters to the Weasleys, to thank them for the gift, and to her father in Azkaban.

Although Vulpecula's letters to sirius never reached him, instead stayed together in her bedside table drawer, she enjoyed writing to him, it made her feel connected to the man she didn't remember knowing.

Authors note:

Thank you so much for reading i don't even know if this will reach anyone but i am just writing for myself and my own enjoyment, so if it does manage to find anyone i'm happy to be sharing my hobby.

The first few chapters will have large gaps in time between them, because i do want to introduce vulpecula and her start at hogwarts but the first two years are not massively important to the story so will be skimmed over sort of, it will all make sense.

thank you again, i hope you enjoyed
