"Happy Birthday!" Vulpecula's voice rang as she approached the Slytherin table.

Blaise looked up from his breakfast at the sound of it with a smile plastered on his face. Theodore had spotted the girl the moment she walked into the Great Hall, unfortunately she had seen him too, with Daphne clinging to his side.

"Thanks, Val!" Blaise spoke through a mouthful of food which the girl laughed at.

"Here." Vulpecula reached into her satchel, pulled out a small box and extended it towards her friend.

Blaise took it eagerly and opened the small black box. The sight of its contents made his eyes widen in shock. Sat in the box, was a silver broach in the shape of a snake, the eyes of which were emerald gemstones.

"Val, what the fuck?"

Vulpecula's happy expression fell instantly, she thought he would've loved the gift. She'd found it in the room she had taken over at her father's house. Assuming it was something to do with family, she didn't want it knowing how they treated Sirius and other family members that refused to follow the blood-supremacist legacy.

"You don't like it?"

"No! I love it, but how? Where?"

"I found it-"

Blaise looked up at her and suddenly understood. He was obviously aware of Vulpecula's situation, he, along with Hermione, was the first to know of the move.

"It's amazing, thank you." He smiled up at his friend.

Vulpecula returned the smile. "I've got to go catch up with Harry, speak later?" She said as she began to walk away giving her friend a wave.

Blaise waved back before turning to face Theodore. The boy was sat perplexed, mouth slightly agape and eyebrows furrowed. Daphne had been taking no notice of the interaction.

"What's up with you?" Blaise nudged his friend.

Theodore seemed to snap out of a trance of some sorts and faced his friend, shaking his head with a shrug.

"Nothing." He brushed off, "Cool present." Theodore added sadly.

He was disheartened by the realisation that Vulpecula did not get him a gift for his birthday the day before, considering they had been what one would call friends for a while now.

He looked over to the Gryffindor table where Vulpecula had just arrived and was stood next to a seated Harry. They exchanged some words before Harry stood and the two walked out of the hall together.

The two Gryffindors walked out into the empty courtyard and sat down on a cold stone bench. Vulpecula wrapped her arms around herself in efforts to keep warm in the newly november air.

"Hey, what was it you wanted to chat about?" Vulpecula asked her Godbrother with a smile.

Harry looked uneasy. His exterior was an accurate representation of his nervousness.

"umm, I've been meaning to tell you...for a while now, actually..." He paused, collecting his thoughts. "It's just been quite difficult figuring out how, I've left it rather long and figured I just need to spit it out."

Vulpecula's smile faded slightly in confusion, she simply nodded to the boy in front of her.

"That night, in the graveyard, when he came back?"

Vulpecula nodded more eagerly.

"When he was speaking to Wormtail, he said something... about you."
