"New Year's party! Spread the word!""Gryffindor common room, New Year's Eve."
"Be there or eat hippogryff shit!"
It was the day after Christmas and Fred and George Weasley were already loudly advertising their plans for the end of the week, earning them laughs and stares from scattered students. Every year, the houses held an extravagant party for the new year, and it just so happened to be the turn of Gryffindor.
The twins took this as an opportunity to go all out. The students who left for Christmas would return to Hogwarts that day and they were anticipating an overcrowded common room of sweaty drunken bodies.
"Fred! George!" Hermione's voice was harsh. "Sit down."
"What's with the buzz kill, Mione?" Fred accused.
"Oh just that if teachers hear you, you won't get a party at all? Try being smart about it."
"Who are you and what have you done with Hermione Granger." Ron laughed from beside her, causing a laugh to escape every Gryffindor mouth.
The twins, girls, Ron and Harry were sat at the Gryffindor table in the Great Hall. The hall had its usual decorations for Christmas time, large pine trees that were adorned with tinsel and ornaments, wreaths lining the walls and a snowy sky as the ceiling. Luckily for everyone, the teachers were no where to be seen. They'd been planning the party since the last DA meeting before the Christmas break, getting suggestions from a few members.
"So I'm thinking balloons? They're super fun for New Year's." Hermione suggested.
"Yes! Make sure they're red." Harry chimed in.
"Or how about all colours, considering we're hosting all houses?" Ginny questioned.
"Or just gold and silver? Classic New Year's colours?" Vulpecula suggested.
"No, Little Lup, sorry but Ginny's idea was good."
Vulpecula shrugged at the rejection of her idea, she agreed with George though, Ginny's idea was thoughtful and was a demonstration of inter-house unity.
"You going on sunday?" Blaise asked Theodore who sat next to him ot the Slytherin table.
"Haven't decided yet, but probably."
"I think it'll be good, we can let loose," Blaise nudged his friend. "and you can talk to Val again."
Theodore and Vulpecula hadn't spoke since the beginning of November when he'd insulted her taste in men. He regretted what he said, although there was truth in the words; the girl somehow always found herself interested in terrible boys.
Similarly, Vulpecula had missed speaking to Theodore. Although she would never approach him first, she was far too stubborn, so instead she spent much of her days watching him; in hopes that he would break their silence and apologise. Such as now, she had her eyes fixed on him as he was deep in conversation with Blaise.
"Hey, V" Hermione's voice pulled Vulpecula's attention away from the Slytherin boy. "Did you think about inviting the boys to join DA?"
"Oh, I'm not sure, Mione, I don't think people would take two Slytherins in Dumbledore's Army very well."
"But they want what we want."
"I know that. And you know that. But other people are much harder to convince." Vulpecula replied solemnly.
The girl simply nodded sadly "Maybe just talk to them about it?"
Vulpecula smiled and nodded at Hermione's relentless endeavours, finding her friend's wish to include the boys endearing.
