The large library was almost empty, few students littered tables as they worked on their assignments. Blaise and Vulpecula sat at a small, circular wooden table, the brown surface was decorated with open books of Astronomy, Potions and Defence Against the Dark Arts. The two had received a mass amount of homework in the first two months and had attempted to put it off for as long as possible. Now, however, they were required to complete it.The large windows that lined the library walls, which previously filled the room with pink and orange hues from the setting sun, let in the bright moonlight, and dim candles placed sporadically around the room assisted in illuminating the aisles of books.
"Why didn't you get Hermione to help you?" Blaise questioned.
Vulpecula lifted her head from her hands and tore her gaze away from the essay she was reading over and looked at the boy in front of her.
"I dunno, I feel bad for asking her about school all the time." She shrugged
Blaise simply nodded in understanding. As he was about to pick up his quill and return to his work, a thought struck him.
"I completely forgot to tell you," His voice caught his friends attention, she was now listening intently "It's Theo's Birthday tomorrow and mine on Wednesday so we're throwing a party on Friday night in the common room, I want you to come, and bring the gang because it's all houses welcome."
Blaise spilled the information at a swift pace, signalling his excitement for the event. Vulpecula hadn't spoken to Theodore since the first evening back, she'd done her best to avoid him at all costs. Unfortunately, the newest professor had sat her next to him in DADA, but she still limited their time conversing.
To Vulpecula, Theodore seemed unfazed by her endeavours to avoid him, he appeared nonchalant when they sat together in class and when passing each other in the corridors. This made it slightly easier for her to ignore him, yet it hurt her that he was so unbothered with her distance.
Unbeknownst to her, it was eating away at Theodore. He was tormented by her absence in his life. He had found out that Draco's friend from the year above had tried to attack her that night but all he got out of it was a broken nose from her, and then a few broken ribs from Theodore. Yet when he attempted to speak to Vulpecula about it the next day, he couldn't catch her attention.
He wondered if he'd gone too far with Daphne, he told himself he shouldn't have let her keep doing it yet he couldn't find it in himself to stop. Since that night, he imagined Vulpecula every time Daphne was on her knees in front of him. He couldn't control his thoughts, they came to him and plagued his mind.
Blaise had warned him that it wasn't healthy, for either party. The boy knew that his friend was doing this to keep his mind occupied, away from other things; Voldemort things. Blaise was right, he almost always was when it came to his non-biological brother. However Blaise was missing the small piece of information that Theodore also wanted to rid his thoughts of the fact that a certain girl was ignoring him by pretending she was there with him.
"Will Rosier be there?" Her voice was wary.
Lucas Rosier, son of infamous Deatheater Evan Rosier, that was the name of the boy who'd attempted to attack her. He and Draco were associated through parental connections, that much was clear to Vulpecula.
"I'll make sure he's not." Blaise's voice was stern.
He'd been infuriated when Vulpecula informed him of the event, on a rampage he threatened the hospitalised boy, telling Rosier that he'd kill him if he so much as looked at Vulpecula again.
Vulpecula nodded slowly, despite her recent distance with Theodore, she was in need of a party. She loved parties, yet Fred and George had always made it a mission to keep the younger Gryffindors away from the alcohol while simultaneously drinking in their faces. Their attempts were ridiculous to Vulpecula, as she had been drinking since the age of thirteen, in third year when the whisperings surrounding her father's escape had become too much to bare.
