The sudden brightness made Vulpecula's eyes snap shut. Once she slowly opened them again her eyes adjusted and she saw that she was in the Hogwarts Hospital Wing.Every bed that lined the walls of the long room was empt, all except hers. The room was bright and clean, the tall windows let in maximum light from outside.
She attempted to sit up but a searing pain in her back made her halt her movements and cry out in pain. She took a deep breath and pinched her eyes shut.
She heard the doors of the wing open and her eyes opened in curiosity. Blaise and Hermione came walking into the room towards her.
Blaise's short, curly afro was unkempt and bounced as he took long strides towards Vulpecula. Hermione's hair no longer tamed but frizzy, she had attempted to lessen the effect by pulling it into a low ponytail.
"Val, Hermione told me everything." Blaise said as he sat down in a chair next to her hospital bed.
Vulpecula gave a tight-lipped smile to them both, her back still in pain.
"Madame Pomfrey is on her way." Hermione informed her, Vulpecula slowly nodded.
"How are you feeling?" Blaise queried
"Okay, my back hurts, but okay."
"Remus feels terrible, V, he said he's going to make his way here soon." Hermione grabbed the girls hand, Vulpecula squeezed her friend's hand that held hers.
Madame Pomfrey came waltzing in through the open double doors, heading straight towards the three.
"Miss Black, how are you feeling?" She asked with a serious but concerned tone
"I'm good, my back hurts though."
"Yes, it will. I've closed up your lacerations but unfortunately they have scarred, nothing else is damaged, I've checked, so if you want to, you are free to go"
Vulpecula nodded and thanks Madame Pomfrey before she turned away to get on with whatever healer business she had.
"Do you want to go?" Blaise questioned, knowing his friend would never willingly stay in the hospital wing.
"I- uh" Vulpecula chuckled at herself, feeling pathetic "I cant exactly move."
"That's no problem." Hermione said and skipped over to the double doors, she turned her head round the corner before coming to sit back down. Just then, Remus and Harry walked into the room with Ron on crutches with them.
Remus was exhausted and his muscles cried from the previous night's transformation but he put on a brave face for his goddaughter. Harry looked no different than usual similarly to Ron, the only difference was that the redhead's leg was bandaged up.
Vulpecula smiled at them all as they made their way over and took a seat around her. Remus and Blaise helped her sit up into a comfortable position.
"I have something for you, little fox." Vulpecula tilted her head in question
Remus pulled something out of the pocket of his threadbare blazer and handing it to her. She took a small box into her hands, it was a dark blue velvet colour. She ran her fingers over the square box before opening it up. Her eyes went wide as she stared in awe of the bracelet that lay in the box.
It was a silver chain that held dark red rubies. The rubies sat in a silver pocket that was woven into the chain at every two links. She picked it up and stared at it, she couldn't express her gratitude.
"Happy Birthday, little fox" Remus smiled at her as she beamed at him.
"Thank you so much, uncle Remus, I love it!" She exclaimed in excitement. "Put it on me!" she said to Hermione who was closest.
