The day of the first trial of the tournament had arrived. It was a chilly day and everyone was making their way to the quidditch pitch where it would be held.Vulpecula was walking with Ron, Hermione, the twins and Ginny. All wrapped up in hats and scarves, the girls huddled together to maintain warmth. Hermione suddenly split off and told them she'd be back before the task.
The group made their way to their places in the familiar quidditch stands. It was even colder up in the stands and Vulpecula began to shiver.
"I would give you something, V, but then I'd be cold." Ginny said jokingly and the two laughed.
Vulpecula saw Blaise, Theodore and Draco take places two rows below them, she didn't know if they'd seen her but she decided to call out to them.
"Blaise!"
The three boys turned around to face the girl after hearing her familiar voice, all sporting different expressions. Blaise wore a large smile as he waved up at his friend, Theodore's face was unreadable as he stares blankly at the girl, Draco grimaced at her and the group.
"Why are you speaking to us, you filthy blood-traitor?"
"I'm sorry? I don't recall calling your name." Vulpecula retorted.
Blaise and Theodore stifled laughs while the Weasleys next to her burst out into hysterics making no attempt to hide their amusement.
Draco shot the group a hateful glare before turning around like a stropping child. Vulpecula laughed to herself in victory.
"How's Potter dealing?" Blaise inquired
"He's uh, he's dealing." Vulpecula pulled her lips into a tight line nodding slowly.
Ron and Harry hadn't spoken since his name flew out of the Goblet of Fire, and he pushed Vulpecula away every time she attempted to reach out for a reason she was unaware of.
Blaise nodded in understanding and turned back around to face the giant rocks and cave that now covered the quidditch pitch. Hermione appeared at Vulpecula's side and gave her a hug.
"Merlin, V, you're freezing!" She yelled in shock "But you're already wrapped up, I don't get it!"
Theodore turned his head slightly at Hermione's words, his action went unnoticed by the other Slytherin boys. He felt an unusual urge to help the girl, like he had that night she had a panic attack. He was taken aback by his own instincts and shook them away.
'Let her freeze' He thought to himself.
There was a loud sound of a canon that brought him away from his conflicting thoughts. Suddenly a large dragon emerged from the cave, and Cedric Diggory appeared, creating a tremendous roar from the crowd. He was a tiny ant compared to the blue-grey beast that crawled around on the rocks.
There was a golden egg that each champion had to retrieve in order to proceed to the next task. They had to pass the dragon and collect the egg, easier said than done, yet every champion managed to receive theirs, even Harry.
Harry used his wand to summon his firebolt, the largest dragon of the four managed to escape the chains that restricted it. A chase began between Harry and the dragon, they went out of eyeshot for about five minutes and everyone grew silent, an atmosphere of fear grew.
Vulpecula and Hermione grew anxious and were oscillating their heads trying to see the young boy flying. He suddenly appeared flying over head, a deafening cheer came from the crowd, specifically the Gryffindor group of five that came to support their close friend, Vulpecula screamed in celebration at the sight of Harry. He swooped past the stands and grabbed the golden egg in his arm as he passed.
