The warmth of the early summer day had faded, now the stone walls, that had previously provided shade from the beaming rays, caused chills to run down the spines of whoever walked the halls. In an isolated room of the castle, the widows were covered and darkness filled the space. Limited light was provided by the moonlight struggling to penetrate the long blinds that shielded the windows.
Shadowed muggle and magical instruments cluttered the room, cellos, violins, guitars alike. At the far end of the room, closest to the three windows, elevated slightly by a two inch step, stood a marvellous grand piano. It's shiny black wood had the tiniest shine in the restricted moonlight. It's black and white keys moved softly under fingers that moved so delicately.
The song filled the room, the hands that were usually strong became gentle and calm to play the melody. The music rose and gained tempo and Theodore's fingers sped up and pressed down on the keys slightly harder. His eyes were fixed on his movements, foot pressing the pedal beneath him. The boy's head was bobbing and swaying ever so slightly with his hands, his fluffy brown waves moving in front of his eyes. His ears were filled with his serenade, so much so that he was oblivious to any event other than this moment.
At that very moment, her bare legs were carrying her through the castle's chilled and dark corridors. Still dressed in her school skirt and shirt, tie loosened slightly and dirty-blonde hair roused from the wind at the top of the astronomy tower, she played with her wand in her hand, twisting it through her fingers. Her other hand held tightly onto a half empty bottle of a golden coloured alcohol.
Her leather school shoes made a slight squeaking noise against the stone flooring but the girl payed it no mind. Her thoughts were filled with worry, fear and dread, every possible negative wormed it's way into her mind.
As her mind was reeling, she stopped in her tracks and was ripped to reality at the sound of music emitting from around a corner. She placed her wand into her skirt waistband and her legs forced her to follow the sound as it grew louder and louder until she reached the closed door to the castle's music room.
Intrigued, she reached for the circular handle. Twisting it and pushing the door open, she stepped inside the room as quietly as possible. Her eyes fell upon a figure sat at a grand piano at the far end of the room. She could instantly make out the silhouette of the boy playing and her heart rate increased rapidly.
She recalled the conversation shared months ago when he had confessed his love for the piano, but hearing the melodious music he created was astonishing. Without thought, she stepped closer and closer to the boy. The music's tempo increased with each step she took, until finally it halted. All that could be heard in the room was his heavy breathing.
As if sensing a new presence, his head snapped towards her. He saw her face change in the moonlight, eyes widened and jaw dropped. He couldn't help but rake his eyes down over her entire figure, taking in her disheveled state.
"What are you doing here, Pecs?" His tone showed no emotion.
"I- I was walking and then I heard the-" She pointed towards the piano. "That was amazing."
Theodore slightly smiled, it went unseen by the girl as his face remained embowered from the limited light. He extended an arm, his palm facing upwards, inviting her to take it in her hand.
Vulpecula did so, their soft skin connected and Theodore felt comforted by her smooth hand in his. He pulled her towards the piano and she stared down at him.
"What?" She asked, noticing the small smile on his lips.
"Nothing." He shrugged "Do you want to try?"
