The Great Hall was decorated with a dark, snowy sky, multiple Christmas trees lined the walls and at the end of the hall stood a tree that reached, what could only be assumed as, twenty feet tall. Tinsel and wreaths covered the walls.

Vulpecula sat with her head in her hand as she stared blankly at the largest tree in the room. Ron, Harry and Hermione sat across from her, the four were completing a Potions written task with students of all houses and years. Snape was patrolling up and down the rows of students.

Snape had already hit Harry and Ron over the head with a book twice for talking, but the boys failed to get the message. Vulpecula occasionally turned around to Blaise who was sat at the table behind her, but was tactical in doing so as to avoid being caught.

"We better get dates soon or we'll end up being the only two tossers without a date this weekend." Ron mumbled to Harry "well, us and Neville."

Hermione leaned over, intruding on their conversation. "I'll have you know that Neville's already got someone."

Ron and Harry groaned at the news that even Neville had found a date to the Yule Ball and Vulpecula suppressed a giggle. Snape walked past them and used a thin notebook to smack the back of each boy's head, the sound echoing through the hall. Hermione and Vulpecula's eyes shot wide.

As Snape walked off, a piece of parchment landed in front of Ron. He read it and then handed it to Vulpecula who was leaning over the table to try and read the note.

'Better get a move on or all the good ones will be gone!'

It was Fred's handwriting and the four fourth years looked to their sides to find Fred and George looking at them. Ron asked who Fred was taking to the hall in a hushed whisper.

Fred threw a ball of paper across the table at Angelina Johnson who turned to face him with an annoyed expression. The redhead performed a mime asking the girl to the ball by pointing to her, pretending to waltz and then pointing at himself. Angelina appeared to understand his gestures and nodded her head with a smile.

Fred turned back to the group and gave them an exaggerated wink. Vulpecula laughed at his behaviour but was silenced by Ron's scrutinising stare.

"Not like you've got anyone, V." Vulpecula's mouth fell open at Ron's words.

"Ronald!" She whisper shouted, placing a hand to her chest as if offended "How dare you reveal my darkest secret, oh my! I- I fear i may faint!"

Vulpecula mimicked a dramatic fainting action with the back of her hand pressed to her forehead. Hermione across from her giggled and Blaise behind her chuckled. Hearing Blaise, she turned around and smiled at him along with shooting him an equally exaggerated wink.

Theodore stared plainly at the girl as she moved, turned and spoke. He'd heard Ron say she hadn't found a date and he felt himself smirk, it's not that he didn't want her to have a date, more like he wanted her to be unhappy. But when she proved unbothered by her lack of dance partner, he was disheartened.

He, too, did not have a partner for the dance. He, too, was unbothered. Theodore wasn't one for romance, he hadn't grown up with the loving care that nurtured people into being suited for love. Sure, he'd thought about what it might be like to fall madly in love and be absolutely besotted with someone, but he didn't think it possible for him. But he was only fifteen and had years of experiences ahead of him.

Blaise was another student who remained partnerless, however, unlike the others, he had no plan to attend the ball unaccompanied. He, in fact, had a hope to take a particular Slytherin girl, all he had to do was pluck up the courage to ask. Maybe that was why he wasn't placed in Gryffindor.
