Vulpecula shivered. She was sat next to Ron and Harry in the Great Hall, it looked unusual while it was this empty. Mcgonagall had called for a Gryffindor assembly for some sort of announcement.Harry and Rob were finally speaking again after ignoring each other for a few weeks. Vulpecula and Hermione knew that they would, but the boys needed their own time to strop around and get over it.
The room was cold and slightly dark. There was a large record player sat in the corner which Filtch, the caretaker, stood by as he looked out at all of the Gryffindors with a look of distaste on his face. Everyone knew Filtch didn't like kids.
Mcgonagall stood in dark green robes that touched the floor and her height was increased with a pointy black witches hat. Her skin was wrinkled with age but the woman's movement and overall demeanour did not reflect her age.
"The Yule Ball, held on Christmas day, is a tradition during the Tri-Wizard tournament, and I expect you all to be on your best behaviour." Mcgonagall's final words were directed towards the Weasley twins who stood behind Vulpecula.
"I will not have you disgrace the Gryffindor name by behaving like a babbling, bumbling band of baboons!"
There was a whisper from Fred to George about the words Mcgonagall had just said and the two began to repeat them quickly over and over.
"You shall all be required to learn how to dance," She turned to Filtch "Mr Filtch, if you will."
The old squib caretaker placed the needle of the record player onto a spinning record and music began to play from the large pink horn. Mcgonagall ushered students to stand and partner up.
"Care for a dance, m'lady?" George was bowing in front of Vulpecula with a hand extended.
Vulpecula laughed at him and took his hand "Why, of course, Kind sir."
The two brought themselves to the makeshift dance floor and began dancing, not quite a waltz but close enough.
Vulpecula looked over her shoulder and saw Ron and Hermione dancing, Harry and Ginny and Fred and Angelina from the quidditch team. She smiled to herself, she'd been trying to get Ron and Hermiome to go out since first year, maybe the two were finally finding their way to each other. It was growing painful to watch the obvious crushes they had on one another.
George spun Vulpecula around and back the other way, she got dizzy and lost her balance but George held her back tightly, preventing her from falling. The two laughed and stopped dancing as the music stopped and Mcgonagall dismissed them all.
Vulpecula began walking with Hermione and the two soon were lost in conversation. So lost, in fact, that they failed to acknowledge the group of boys they were about to walk past on their way to the common room.
Theodore and Blaise rounded a corner just ahead of them, walking towards the girls. The Slytherin boys immediately noticed the group of five Hufflepuffs that were staring intently at the girls and whispering. The two exchanged unsure glances and returned their focus back onto the group.
Ron, Harry and the twins were following a few feet behind the girls and they also noticed the suspicious activity of the group of boys.
A Hufflepuff emerged from the group and walked up to Vulpecula. He was close behind her and as she acknowledged his presence, about to ask him to back up, he grabbed ahold of her.
"Hey, Black, why don't I take you back to my dorm?"
The Hufflepuff brought his hands to Vulpecula's waist and pulled her to him, Hermione pulled out her wand pointing it at the boy. Blaise, Theodore and the Gryffindor boys all leapt forwards.
