Names began being called. Vulpecula realised she wouldn't have to wait long as her surname began with B. McGonagall had just called out 'Prilla Bane' and she got sorted into Hufflepuff rather quickly.

Vulpecula was getting nervous, she began to chew on her lip in anticipation. She'd seen the hat make a decision in a heartbeat but also one took a few extra seconds of thinking. What would it be like for her?

"Vulpecula Black" McGonagall's clear voice echoed in the hall, or maybe she just thought it did. She swallowed hard, stepping out from the group of children. She watched her feet to make sure she didn't trip in-front of the entire school. When she reached the stool, after what felt like a lifetime, she turned to face the students. A million eyes were upon her, eager to know where Vulpecula would be placed, a Black, daughter of the infamous Sirius.

She was playing with the rings that decorated her slender fingers as she lowered herself onto the wooden chair, it was incredibly uncomfortable but it was only meant to be sat in briefly.

Vulpecula felt McGonagall lower the old hat onto her head. It smelt of dust and damp. The rim created a shadow on her face. Upon immediate contact the hat spoke up, if she didn't know it was coming she would've jumped out of her skin.

"Hmmm, very interesting" it hummed "A Black, eh? Haven't had one of you in many years."

The hat stopped speaking, Vulpecula's heart rate increased. Why was she so nervous, whatever house she got, Remus would be proud and there's no way Ron would stop being her life long friend over a house.

"You're a tricky one." the hat had finally spoken but it's words did not ease Vulpecula's worries "Passionate, stubborn and practical, definitely" It continued, She didn't know what that meant.

"But very ambitious, resourceful and assertive nonetheless" the hat was throwing words around and Vulpecula was growing more and more anxious.

"You don't know what house you want do you?" the hat queried, Vulpecula didn't realise it was an actual question directed to her at first, but when the hat did not continue she whispered to it.

"No"

"Hmmm, you're conflicted, I see" silence followed once more, Vulpecula was growing uncomfortable on the stool with eyes staring at her.

"I could just place you where your father had gone, but with him being the only Black i've ever placed in Gryffindor, i wonder if you're more like your family than you may think"

Vulpecula was growing impatient, she wanted the hat to pick a house so she could sit down and get away from the curious eyes burning into her. She hadn't dared look up at the students since she'd sat down, so she couldn't see, but she could feel it.

"Gryffindor!" the Sorting Hat finally blurted out, his loud deep voice exploding in her ears.

There was an uproar in the hall, mainly from one particular table, telling her straight away where she should head to. The hat was lifted from her head and she practically sprinted down from the raised level she was on.

Still careful not to trip, she made her way over to where the twins were cheering uncontrollably. Sitting down next to George with Fred opposite she put her face in her hands, she smiled to herself.

"I thought it was about to put you in slytherin just then, little lup" George said to her, throwing his arm around her and pulling her close. She awkwardly chuckled at his words, so did she.

Name after name was called out and student after student was sorted by the hat. Hermione, Harry, Ron, and a few others were sorted into Gryffindor. Malfoy, to no one's surprise, had been sorted into Slytherin before the hat even touched the boys blonde head.
