Vulpecula's fears and worries soon became reality when, from the moment she entered the Great Hall with her friends', all eyes fell on her, an eruption of whispers followed. The group of Gryffindors took their seats at the long oak table, Vulpecula sat herself between George and Ginny, and opposite Hermione who sat next to Ron and Fred, Harry was on the other side of ginny.
As the group sat their, whispers from every table persisted. It was difficult to decipher exactly what was being said by individual voices, but they all got the general topic of conversation, Vulpecula Black.
She began chewing on the inside of her lip, not noticing the blood she was drawing, and bouncing her leg under the table. On her lap she held her hands together, fiddling with the decorative rings that lined her fingers.
She let her mind wander, she began wondering what they were saying, were they judging her, did they think she had something to do with the escape, is he going to try and contact her.
"Little Lup" George snapped her out of her spiralling and captured her attention "You've got an admirer" he said gesturing with his head towards the Slytherin table.
Vulpecula scanned the table that sat behind Hermione until she met a set of all too familiar eyes. Nott's expression was hard to read, there was a anger, understandably, but also something that Vulpecula couldn't quite make out. His eyes bore into hers and she grew uncomfortable with the prolonged eye contact.
She tore her eyes away from him and looked to see Blaise next to him, she visibly relaxed and her face instantly lit up. Blaise was deep in conversation with a Slytherin girl Vulpecula knew as Pansy Parkinson.
She didn't exactly have anything against Pansy, they hadn't interacted once during their time at Hogwarts, and if Blaise was interested in her she couldn't be that bad.
After observing for a while, Vulpecula brought her attention to the teachers table at the head of the hall. Her eager eyes scanned the length of the table.
Vulpecula saw teachers she'd been taught by and ones she hadnt yet. The most noticeable at the table being Hagrid with his large size. Her search for her uncle was complete when she saw him sat next to Mcgonagall, deep in conversation with her.
"Maybe she's telling him how much of a pain you are" George spoke up beside her, making her startle a bit but giggle.
"She's probably warning him about you and Fred, although he's probably seen enough over the years" She retorted, beaming at him.
Her gaze returned to her uncle who was now looking back at her, her smile grew wide and she waved up at him. He returned the gesture with a big toothy grin.
Theodore, who had been watching the girl intently since she walked into the Great Hall, observed this interaction. He wondered how she knew the unfamiliar teacher but soon his mind was active as he planned all the ways he would get under her skin this year, perhaps even using whatever relationship she had with the new teacher to his advantage.
He didn't know why he was so hellbent on making the girl miserable, but he knew he got entertainment out of it, and merlin knows he'll jump at the chance for entertainment while at Hogwarts considering that his home life bored him out of his mind.
His attention was pulled from Vulpecula by Blaise turning away from Pansy to speak to him.
"Hey man" He cleared his throat, Theo turned to face him "chill out a bit with Black, okay? I'd really appreciate it dude."
Theo felt slightly guilty for indirectly affecting his friend, but that guilt was short lived when it occurred to him what his words meant. She'd run her mouth to Blaise. Theodore didn't know how much of their interaction she'd told him, but boy was she going to pay for it.
