"Love is a drug, like the strongest stuff ever
And, fuck it I'm on one, you feel me?"-J ColeDREW.
The sound of dishes banging woke me up. I went downstairs to see my mom cooking something.
"Good morning baby." She walked from behind the counter and gave me a kiss on the cheek.
"I love you and all but, how you get up here?"
"That boy you always talk to... Ronnie or something like that."
"You mean Rio?"
"Yea that boy. He so sweet D."
"I bet. How did you get pass security?" I took a seat the table. She put some food on a plate then passed it to me.
"Look who you talking to. I am your mother, not some random hoe."
"I was just asking." I said putting my hands up in surrender. I began eating the food as she cleaned the rest of the kitchen.
"Son, I'm glad you're back."
"Thank you momma."
"This time make things right. I think it's time to tell her."
"Momma let's not." She threw the towel into the sink and stood in front of me. She grabbed my face in her hand while squeezing my cheeks.
"Listen boy. Eventually you need to tell her because if you don't she is going to be even more hurt. I care about that girl too much to let you break her again."
"So what am I supposed to say?"
"I don't know but, you better figure it out soon. You're not just looking out for yourself anymore you got three other people too." She kissed my cheek and rubbed the lipstick off. "I will always be there for if you need me but, I'm not going to lie for you anymore. I covered for you for almost five years and it's time for you to grow up." She took her keys off the counter and walked into the foyer.
"I'm trying, I just don't want to ruin it. We just got back on good terms."
"Just make things right, son. One more thing, this is hard for her, giving you another chance. So don't mess up." She opened the front door and walked out.
Tomorrow I was going to pick up Simone. I wanted to make sure she had everything for the weekend. I went upstairs and got dressed. I realized I didn't really know what she liked. I grabbed my phone off the dresser and called Des.
"Hello." She giggled into the phone.
"Hey ma, I have a question."
"Shoot."
"I'm going to the store and I don't know what to buy."
"Umm maybe food?"
"I'm not stupid dumb ass." I said smacking my lips. I grabbed my keys off the counter and headed to my Rolls Royce. "I'm talking about for Simi."
"Oh, my bad." She giggled. This girl is a trip I swear. "She is pretty simple she doesn't eat meat other than chicken. Her favorite foods are macaroni and cheese, French fries with honey mustard on the side and chicken strips. If you get popcorn make sure you buy Crunch chocolate otherwise she won't eat it. Also she is highly allergic to fish." Simple my ass, that was so complicated.
"Damn anything else?"
"Nope."
"Thanks for the list."
"No problem. Thank you for watching Simi ." I was pulling out the drive way heading to Kroger.
"You ain't gotta thank me she is my daughter I would do it regardless."
"I just want you to know this means a lot to her." There was long pause on the phone before I spoke.
"How was your day today?"
"It was good no complaints. How about you?"
"Shid, the same."
"That's good." I heard her laugh and that brought a smile to my face. "Hold on someone wants to talk to you." There was shuffling on the other end.
"Daddy!"
"Hey baby."
"I miss you."
"I miss you too princess but, I'll see you tomorrow."
"Ok."
"What did you do today?"
"Me and mommy went to see the animals at the zoo."
"Oh really?" I listened to her tell me about her time at the park as I pulled into a parking space."
"Alright baby put your mom back on the phone."
"No I don't wanna." I heard her pout.
"I know but daddy has to go so he can get your surprise."
"Really?"
"Really."
"Ok love you, bye." She rushed off the phone. I thought she may have accidentally hung up when I didn't hear any sound on the other end.
"Hello?" Destiny spoke.
"Yea I'm here."
"Well whatever you told her has her excited." She giggled.
"You know I have that affect on people."
"I'm not about to play with you."
"Whatever big head. I got to go, love you."
"Fuck you nigga, my head ain't big but bye." After getting off the phone, I got out the car and put it in my pocket.
I spent a good thirty minutes trying to by things I thought she would like. While I was walking down the aisle to get some fruit snacks, I stopped at the sound of a familiar voice.
"Long time no see." Camellia said. She was this girl I used to fuck with in Trinidad from time to time. Weird thing is she looked exactly like Destiny. I swear when I saw her at the mall that one day I swore that was Destiny. The only difference is she is a little darker and wears weave. Other than that they are practically identical.
"What's up ma?"
"Nothing much, chilling, enjoy life."
"What brings you down here? Last time I checked you were doing makeup or some shit like that."
"Yea, I still am but I wanted to expand my business out here so I could be closer to my mom."
"That's what's up." I ran over my waves and waited for her to speak.
"Listen." She walked closer to me. "I know we said we would never talk about what happened between us but, you can't keep denying it. I think we should try to work things out for,"
"Hey baby you ready to go." It was that same nigga Ace. There something about him I just don't trust.
"How you two know each other?"
"We are friends babe nothing serious." She said, pecking his lips.
"It was nice seeing you Drew." With that she walked away.
I grabbed what I needed and proceeded to the check outline so, I could pay for everything. The girl at the counter kept eye rapping me. It was creepy as hell considering she was like nine and had acne.
"Your total will be 345.95." I handed her four hundred dollars.
"Keep the change ma."
"Thank you!" I grabbed the items and put them into the cart.
The change of weather was starting to take a toll on nigga. I don't understand how it can be sunny one minute then raining the next.
I ran to my car then got inside. When I got inside I tried to crank it up but, the shit wouldn't start.
"Fuck." I sighed. I dialed Rio's number but, his ass sent me to voicemail. I called my moms too and got the same result. I finally gave up and called Destiny.
"What Drew, didn't I just get off the phone with you?"
"I need a favor."
"What you need?"
"Come pick me up. My car won't crank up."
"Ummm. Ok I'm on the way."
"Coo, I'm at Kroger."
"Alright." She hung up the phone. I reclined the seat back and put on my shades. Might as well take a nap until she comes.
An hour later she called me saying that she was her. I walked over to her Range and got in.
"Hey." I greeted.
"Hey."
"Thanks for doing this."
"No problem. Where am I dropping you off?"
"My house." I heard soft snores in the back seat.
I turned around and saw Simone in the back seat sleep.
"Make a right at this light." I told her. She nodded her head. She parked her car in front of my house the turned off the ignition.
"Thank you again."
"Your welcome." She smiled. The weather was getting worse then before. I didn't want her or my daughter driving when the roads are damn near flooded.
"Come inside."
"No Drew its ok we need to go home anyway."
"I wasn't asking. I'm telling you." I reached over her and grabbed the keys. I got out the car and put them in my pocket.
"Fine Daddy." I heard her mumble. Low key that shit turned me on almost had my nigga at attention. I unlocked the door and walked straight to the alarm system.
"Nice crib." She walked into the kitchen where I was and sat down at the stool in front of the counter.
"Thanks. Thirsty?" I walked over to the fridge and scanned the contents in it.
"Pardon me?" She cleared he throat. I laughed to myself because her ass ain't slick. I walked over to her and got between her legs. She scooted away but I brought her closer.
"Are your thirsty?"
"Um... Yea... Can I have some water?" I got a bottle from the fridge then handed it to her.
"Thank you." She took a sip then stood up from her seat, walking around.
"I see some things never change." She giggled. She turned around and caught me staring.
"I guess not."
"Show me around." I grabbed her hand and showed her around the house. I took her to my office. I unlocked the door then led her inside.
"It's really nice in here Drew." I went to the conner of the room as she observed everything.
"Come on." I grabbed her hand and walked upstairs to the second floor. I took her to the master bedroom.
"Oh my God Drew." She covered her face with her hands. I had the room modeled just the way she wanted her dream home would want to look like. I thought she would have picked up on that awhile ago but, I guess not. The room was painted black silver accents. The bed is all white with swarovski crystals on the pillows and comforter. There's a flat screen Tv mounted to the wall. In front of the bed I added a white silk bench.
She walked over to the French double doors and stood over the balcony over looking the pool. I stood behind her trying to figure out what she was thinking.
"Talk to me." She stood there quietly holding herself. "Please." I begged.
"I need to go." She walked past me rushing down the stairs.
"Destiny!" I ran behind her. When I caught up to her I picked her up and walked into the half bathroom. I locked the door then sat her down on the sink.
"I need you to talk to me." I looked her eyes trying to get her to speak. I knew exactly what she was doing. She was preparing her body to shut down and I didn't need for that to happen. Her body started to stiffen and her breath started to get faster.
"Destiny... You can't act like this. Think about Simone." I slapped her face lightly trying to keep her eyes open.
"Fuck!" She fell forward in my arms. I lifted her up and cradled her. I ran my hand through her hair to try and calm her down. A couple of minutes later her episode died down. I carried her bridal style to my room. I went down the hall to the guest room that I was slowly turning into Simone's room. She was still sleep. I crept into the room and gave her a kiss.
"Daddy stay with me." I got under the covers then wrapped my arm around her.
