The cold air scratches her cheeks and she snow crunches beneath the heel of her boot, but she's not complaining because she gets to spend Christmas Eve with him. He had picked her up at 8:00 on the dot this morning to take her breakfast at Remy's. Now, they make their way down the street to FAO Schwartz, the biggest toy store in the state. She would come here with her mother every Sunday before Christmas after morning mass to see Santa and pick out a new ornament for their tree. They enter the store and her heart melts.
It's every child's biggest dream. "Babe, look at this dollhouse!" She calls out to him. The house is beautiful and antique. It's one of those things a child would have in their room for decoration more than for play, "It's gorgeous." He says, "When we have a daughter, I want to put something like this in her room." Kate says. His heart constricts at her statement, specifically the use of the word when and not if. "Anything you want." He tells her before leaning down and kissing her cheek. They continue into the store looking at every little thing.
They're looking at train sets that are supposed to go around the bottom of your Christmas tree when Kate feels something tap her knee. She looks down to find an adorable little girl with blonde ringlets and big brown eyes, "Excuse me. Can you help me find my mommy?" Her raspy voice asks as tears fill her eyes, "Of course, Sweetie. What does your mommy look like?" Kate asks as both she and Rick squat down to the little girl's height, "Um, she has on a red scarf and her hair is dark like yours." The girl says.
"Okay, let's look." Kate says. They each take the hand of the little girl, "Do you remember where you last saw her?" Rick asks, "I kind of walked away. She was looking at teddy bears for my little brother and I wanted to look at the ballerinas." She explains. They wonder through the store and make their way over to the stuffed animals. As they walk by, an older gentleman stops Rick and whispers to her, "Sir, you've got a beautiful family." Before walking away. Rick is too stunned to reply and Kate gives him a quizzical look, but before he can explain the little girl between them yells, "Mommy!"
The little blonde runs to a woman who does have brunette hair and a red scarf on, "Sasha! Oh my goodness! You scared me." The mother says as she lifts the child into her arms, "I did what you told me to do if I ever got lost. I found someone who looked like a mommy to help me." The little girl says. Kate's heart stutters: "I look like a mommy." She thinks to herself, "Thank you so much for helping her." The woman says, "Of course. Nice to meet you, Sasha." Kate says.
"Nice to meet you. Thank you." The little girl says once again. Rick and Kate decide then would be a good time to leave and get lunch. They end up at a hot dog cart before going back to Rick's apartment. His mother is out with friends for a spa day and then to watch The Nutcracker on Broadway, so he and Kate have the apartment to themselves for the next several hours. When they arrive, Rick turns on the electronic fireplace and lays out some blankets and pillows on the ground while Kate uses the bathroom.
When she comes out she smiles, "What's this?" She asks him, "For us to cuddle." He responds. They lay under the covers while he puts on How the Grinch Stole Christmas. They aren't really paying attention to the movie as they make out with each other. Kate soon finds herself in his lap as they're both shirtless and he begins working on her pants, "Ever fucked in front of a fireplace?" She asks him. He chuckles before shaking his head and taking her lips in his, "No. You'll be the first." He tells her as he trails kisses down her neck.
He places a kiss over her heart before whispering, "And last." People tell them they're crazy for committing to each other this young, but when you know, you know. And they both knew that there was no one else that could complete them but the other. They spend hours grinding and writhing against each other as the sun goes down and the fireplace is the only source of light they have. It's 5:30 when they finally decide to just lay in each other's arms, "What did that man say to you in the store earlier?" Kate asks.
"He told me that I had a beautiful family." Rick smiles down at her. Her heart melts before she leans up and kisses, "One day we're going to have a little girl. Just like Sasha." Kate promises, "A little Sasha Castle?" He asks her and she nods, "Sasha Christine Castle, it's perfect." She says, "You're perfect." He tells her before slipping down her body to attack her chest, "One more round and then I have to go home." She tells him, "Better make it last then." He says before slipping even further down until he's between her parted legs.December 25, 2012
She got home at 7:30 last night. Their final round lasted well over an hour as Rick drew it out as long as possible. She wakes up relatively early, as she always had one Christmas morning. She gets out of bed and makes her way downstairs where she finds presents under the tree. She makes her way over to the coffee machine and begins brewing a pot for her parents. It's not long before she hears them make their way down the staircase, "Morning, Katie. Merry Christmas." Her mother says before wrapping her up in her arms.
"Merry Christmas, Mom. Merry Christmas, Dad." Kate says as she hugs her father as well, "Let's open the gifts, shall we?" Jim asks. They spend the next hour opening presents and digging through their stockings. Kate loves all of her gifts this year. She got some new books, candles, a Polaroid and a book to keep all of the photos in, as well as a bunch of gift cards to go shopping. Once the gifts are all unwrapped, Kate goes upstairs to shower while Jim and Johanna work on making breakfast. She's gathering her towel when her phone rings, "Good morning. Merry Christmas, gorgeous." Rick greets her.
"Merry Christmas, handsome. Let me call you back in a couple of minutes. I'm about to shower." She tells him, "No! Take me with you. Isn't your phone case waterproof?" He whines. She rolls her eyes at his antics, "I'll be five minutes." "I'm timing you." He says, "Okay. Love you. Bye." She says before hanging up the phone and going to shower. She ends up calling him back after her five minute and thirty-two second shower that Rick reminded her was thirty-two seconds too long. She loves her man-child.
Once she's ready, she goes downstairs to enjoy Christmas breakfast with her parents. While they get ready, Kate brings her gifts up to her room and settles on the couch to watch Christmas movies. Around 1:00 she begins helping her mother make their traditional lasagna before they sit at the table and enjoy their Christmas dinner. Once dinner is done, Kate does dishes while Johanna pours herself and Jim a glass of wine and makes Kate a cup of hot chocolate. They all sit together and enjoy watching Christmas movies until 7:00 when they leave for Christmas mass.
After the service, they return home where they watch It's a Wonderful Life before all retiring for the night. Kate lays in her bed and smiles. She loves how traditional her holidays are and she can't wait to make those memories with a family of her own one day.
