May 17, 2014
She wakes up in her bed and smiles. Waking up for the past ten days have felt like heaven. Rick was in New York for two weeks to propose and go to prom with her. Since she has extenuating circumstances for truancy due to being a teen mom, she hadn't gone to school since he's been here. Only a month until she wakes up like this everyday. Her smile grows wider when she feels a pair of lips attach themselves to the back of her neck. His hands slip between her naked torso and the bed.
They slide up until they're grasping her breasts. "Good morning." He whispers in her ear before nipping the lobe. She turns over onto her back, "Hi." She whispers. He leans down and kisses her lips. "You're so beautiful." He whispers once he pulls back and stares down at her. She lifts her legs and wrap them around his back. "You are very handsome." She tells him as she lifts her hand to cup his cheek. He leans down and plants several kisses from her cheek, down her neck, and across her collarbone. "You made me feel good last night." She tells him.
"Oh yeah?" He nips the inside of her upper arm. "Mhm," she nods. "If I didn't know better, I'd think you were trying to get me pregnant again." She jokes as his kisses travel to her chest. "Hopefully that's in our plan soon." He says nonchalantly, kissing her stomach. She props herself up on her elbows and looks down at him. "How soon?" She questions. He shrugs his shoulders as he kisses her hips. "A year. Maybe sooner." He negotiates as he finally reaches her center. She gasps and lays back down. "Keep doing this and I'll say yes to anything." She moans.
This is how most of their mornings have started since he's been back in her bed. Johanna volunteered to move Royce's bassinet into their room a couple of nights a week so Rick and Kate could get "better sleep" which ironically involved very little sleep. After he worships her like she's water that he's been thirsting for in a hot desert, he moves back up her body and continues the dance that they've perfected for the year and a half that they've been doing this. "Rick." She whispers before he enters her. "Yeah?" He mumbles against her lips.
"I love you, but please don't get me pregnant right now." She tells him. He chuckles, "Don't worry, baby, I want you to myself for a little bit before another little one comes along." He assures her. She smiles and pulls him down for a kiss. She stops him once more before he slides home. He sighs as he tries to contain himself and she giggles, "Sorry. Just one more request." He looks back up at her, "Anything for you, love." "Can our next one be a girl?" She asks. He looks deeply into her eyes, "I'll do my best." He kisses her and this time, there is no stopping him.
Later, her hair is curled and makeup is done. Today wasn't just some random day. It was her senior prom. It blows her mind that this time last year she was going to Rick's prom with him and she was halfway through her pregnancy with Royce. Now, they're engaged and their baby boy is seven and a half months old. Last year, she was scared. This year, she is excited. Excited for what their future holds. Excited for her and Royce to be in North Carolina with Rick 100% of the time.
There is a knock on her door and Johanna walks in. "Katie, I was wondering if you needed help with your dress?" Her mother asks. Kate smiles and nods, "Yeah, the back is a little tricky to tie." Kate says. Her dress is a pale blue color that fits her body perfectly and has floral patterns throughout. It made her feel confident and sexy which made her even more excited for her evening with Rick. He surprised her by booking an evening at a hotel near their prom location so they didn't have to worry about noise or getting walked in on.
"You look beautiful, Katie." Johanna says. Her hair is curled with the sides pulled back and her makeup is done more then usual, but still looks natural. "Thank you, Mom. Could you hand me my ring?" She asks. Johanna grabs her engagement ring off of her dresser and hands it to her daughter. She watches Kate slip the ring onto her finger, "I can't believe my baby girl is engaged." Johanna says sentimentally. "Mom." Kate says trying to convince her mom not to cry. "You'll understand the day Royce comes home and tells you he proposed." Johanna cries.
"That's never going to happen because my handsome boy is never dating. Right baby boy?" Kate coos as she lifts her baby from his bassinet. "With how adorable he is, girls aren't going to be able to resist him." Johanna says as she runs her fingers through the baby's hair. "Well, if he's anything like his Daddy then that statement will be true." Kate agrees. "What will be true?" Rick asks as he enters the bedroom, "He'll be a ladies man." Kate says, "Only for one lady." Rick corrects her as he wraps an arm around her waist and kisses her cheek.
"You look gorgeous." He whispers in her ear causing her to blush. "Alright, you two, downstairs and on the front porch. I need pictures." Johanna says as she takes her grandson from her daughter's arms. They walk hand-in-hand downstairs and they walk out into the porch where Jim is waiting with the camera. "Dad." Kate says embarrassed. Rick chuckles, "I think it's sweet." He whispers in her ear, "Yeah? Wait til he brings it to the wedding." She tells him. Rick leans down and kisses her cheek.
They pose for pictures together and towards the end, Kate passes Royce to Rick so that they can get pictures with their son. "Alright you two, have fun, but not too much fun. Your father and I are content with one grandchild for now." Johanna says. Kate's face turns beet red as she hides in Rick's side. "Okay, okay, I'll stop embarrassing you. Have fun. Royce will be in good hands." Johanna assures her daughter as she pulls her in for a hug. Once their goodbyes are said, Rick helps Kate into the car before he rounds it to climb into the driver seat.
Once they get to the prom, their friends spot them immediately. "Rick!?" Lanie gasps. "Hey guys!" He greets them all by shaking the boys' hands and hugging the girls. "What're you doing here?" Kevin asks. "I had some important business to take care of." Rick says as he looks down at his fiancée. Kate smiles as she holds her hand out for their friends to see her new ring. The girls gasp, "You got engaged!?" Lanie shrieks as she pulls her best friend in for a hug. Congratulations are passed around the group before they enter the dance.
"Deja vu." Rick says once Longing to Belong by Eddie Vedder is playing. He pulls her onto the dance floor and into his arms. "I love sharing my dances with you." He tells her. "That was super cheesy of you, Mr. Castle." She teases him. "I think you mean sentimental, Mrs. Castle." "Not Mrs. Castle yet." He shrugs, "Gonna call you it anyways." He says as he kisses her forehead, "Rick." "Hm?" "I wanna marry you." She says. "I wanna marry you too. That's kinda why I asked." He chuckles. "No, I wanna marry you soon. A year from today — I wanna be Mrs. Castle." She says. He looks into her eyes. "That sounds perfect." He whispers, "Did we just set a date?" He asks. She nods, "May 17, 2015." She tells him. He pulls her into his arms and spins her around. "The best day of my life, besides October 2, 2013 and May 7, 2014." He whispers. She pulls him down for another kiss. "In a years time, we'll be man and wife." She says. "It'll be the time of our lives." He whispers in her ear before kissing her cheek and smiling. A year and then they'll be bound to each other forever.
