She knows usually people send out their save the dates months before the invitations, but seeing as she and Rick had special circumstances in which a majority of the people who would be attending their wedding already know the details, she's decided to send them out together. They're officially fifteen days away from him coming home and she's absolutely ecstatic. She can't wait to hug him and kiss him. She can't wait to see him interact with Royce again. She can't wait for her parents to take Royce to the hotel with them the night of Rick's return so they have the whole apartment to themselves.
She hasn't just missed the physical aspect of her fiancé, she's missed the emotional aspect too. This house doesn't feel like home without him here. And she hated being the only one present to see Royce's milestones. Plus with Rick home, it won't be long before it's their wedding date. She can't wait to be his wife. It's a title she's dreamed of obtaining for the last three years. More importantly, she can't wait for him to come home so she can tell him how she's been feeling about adding to their family.
She officially decided she didn't want to start trying until after the wedding, though. She wanted a few weeks of little stress which she already knew was probably not going to happen since he was getting home six weeks before their nuptials. She's lost in her own thoughts of their big day, the wedding night, their honeymoon, and everything that will come after. She can't wait for their life together. The life they've talked about since they first started dating. Her thoughts are cut off when she hears Royce begin crying through the baby monitor.
She stands to go and retrieve her son. The only thing that makes her sad about the upcoming weeks is that when Rick gets home, Royce will be 18 months old. That means he's a year and a half, almost two. Having a two year old is a thought that scares, excites, and upsets her all in one. She feels like it was only a month ago that she layed in a hospital bed with her newborn son nestled safely against her chest. "Hi Buddy. Did you have a good nap?" She coos as she lifts him and kisses his cheek.
"Mama." He smiles, "Hi baby. Do you want to go for a car ride with Mama?" She asks. He nods. She lays him on his changing table and changes his diaper before setting him down on his feet. Over the past month, he's gotten even more stable on his two feet and can walk perfectly if he's holding her hand. She leans her hand down to hold his before guiding him out to the living room. She grabs the pile of envelopes and her car keys before walking out to the parking lot of their apartment complex.
She settles Royce in his car seat and then gets in the driver seat. She drives them to the post office so that she can drop the cards off before she stops at a small diner to get her and Royce some lunch. After ordering their food, her phone begins to ring. "Royce, look, it's Dada." Kate says. Royce claps his hands and cheers "dada" repeatedly. Kate smiles as she answers the phone with her son in her lap. "Hey handsome." She greets her husband when his face appears on the screen. "Hey you two! What are you guys doing?" "I just dropped the invitations off at the post office and now we're having some lunch."
"Good. I like it when you get out of the apartment." He winks, "Couple more weeks." She tells him excitedly after a little bit of a pause. "I know. I'm so excited to see you guys." He says, "We are excited too." She reciprocates. "Dada Dada Dada." Royce chants as he excitedly smacks the table in front of him. "Hi Bubba. You being good for Mama?" "Of course he is. He's an angel." Kate tells her fiancé before kissing Royce's cheek. "Good. Well, I have to go, but I just wanted to see your guys' faces." Rick says.
"Thanks for the call, babe. We love and miss you." Kate tells him. "I love and miss you guys too. See you in a few weeks!" They blow each other a kiss before Rick blows and very distracted Royce a kiss. Their food comes just as she hangs up and as she eats with Royce, she can't help but feel her stomach flutter with excitement as she thinks about how quick these next fifteen days will fly by.
