She's grateful that she and Rick opted to skip school today. Not only is it their one year anniversary, but the expecting mother got absolutely little sleep last night which meant Rick also got little sleep, trying to help his girlfriend get comfortable as they were smooshed together in her twin sized bed. He let her sleep in the morning while he busies himself by making her breakfast-in-bed. They opted to not go overboard with the day. They're going to get carry out from Remy's tonight while enjoying a Pirates of the Caribbean marathon.
They were Royce's favorite movies. Not only was today their one year anniversary, it was also the one year anniversary since they found out about their friend's death and they knew there would be some sadness casted over the happy day. He realizes his plan is ruined when Kate comes downstairs in a pair of sweatpants and one of his t-shirts. He smiles as he takes in the sight. Her hair is a mess and her face is makeup free, but he still thinks she's to most gorgeous thing to ever walk this earth.
"You ruined my surprise." He tells her. She chuckles as she walks over to him, "Surprise?" "I was gonna bring you breakfast-in-bed." He tells her. She pouts, "I'm sorry. Bubba was on my bladder, so I went to the bathroom and couldn't fall back asleep." She explains, "Would you stop calling our daughter Bubba?" "Would you stop calling our son a daughter?" She throws back at him. He pulls her to him and plants a kiss on her lips, "Happy anniversary." He whispers, "Happy anniversary." "One year down, forever to go." He smiles, "That was so cheesy, babe." She teases.
He turns back around and stacks three chocolate chip pancakes on a plate before adding some bacon onto it, "Go eat your breakfast." He says with a joking nudge. She sticks her tongue out before sitting at the bar where he soon joins her to eat breakfast. "Have you given your Army career any more thought?" She asks him and he nods, "I think I'm going to go Combat Engineer route. The only thing is my basic training will be fourteen weeks instead of ten." He says, "So you won't get home until I'm about ready to pop?" She asks.
He nods, "I can pick a different path if you want. One that only requires ten weeks of basic instead of fourteen." He offers and she shakes her head, "No, this is your career. I want you to be happy with what you're doing." She says, "But I don't want you to possibly give birth alone." He argues, "My doctor says based on the baby's measurements, they shouldn't come out early. If anything they'll be late." She assures him, "But what if they do come early?" He asks, "I'll have my mom with me and I will give you the full play-by-play when you get home if you'd like."
He smiles down at her, "You're extraordinary, you know that?" He asks. She blushes and ducks her head before continuing to eat her breakfast. Someone rings the doorbell and Rick hops up from his seat, "What's that?" She asks, "You're anniversary gift." He says, "What? Rick, I thought we agreed on no gifts this year." She says, "Well, technically, you said no gifts. I neither agreed nor disagreed with that statement. Plus this gift benefits both of us." He promises before opening the door and pulling in two huge boxes.
"What are they?" She asks, "The first one is a pregnancy pillow for you. The second one is a full size mattress and bed frame that your dad and I are going to put together this weekend. Hence you get more sleep therefore I get more sleep therefore we both benefit so it's a tandem gift." He defends his arguement. She smiles before leaning in and kissing him, "I love you." She smiles, "I love you too. Happy anniversary." He says. They wash the pregnancy pillow cover before placing it on and letting Kate try it out and they both end up falling fast asleep.
When Rick wakes up, it's almost dinner time, so he presses a kiss to his girlfriend's cheek and whispers that he's going to get their food. At Remy's, he orders Kate a double cheese burger, double french fries, and a vanilla milkshake before he gets himself a chili cheese dog, nacho fries, and a chocolate milkshake to drink. When he arrives back to her house, he finds her sitting on the couch in the same clothes but her hair and makeup are done, "What's this?" He asks as he notices the lights are off and there are candles everywhere.
"I wanted to make things a little more romantic." She says. He smiles as he drops their food on the coffee table and pulls her in for a kiss and then kisses her bump. He hands her the food as they begin watching the first movie in their marathon — Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. They chow down on their food before cuddling in each other's arms. Halfway through the third movie, he realizes his girlfriend has passed out in his arms. He chuckles and kisses her forehead before turning the TV off.
He gets up to throw their trash away, but the jostling wakes her up, "What time'sit?" She mumbles, "8:30. I'm just going to clean up and then we'll go to bed." He promises, "No." She whines, "What?" "No. We were supposed to have sex tonight." She says as her eyes begin shutting again. Rick chuckles, "Honey, I don't think you'd be able to stay awake for sex." He jokes. "But we have to. It's like the number one anniversary rule." She argues, "How about this: I'll clean up and then we'll sit in a nice bath together? That's intimate." He compromises.
She nods, "We're having sex tonight though." She says stubbornly, "We'll see about that." He laughs. After throwing their garbage away, he draws her a bath where they sit together. It's 30 minutes into the bath when she looks up at him, "Rick." "Hm?" "I don't think I'll be able to stay awake for sex tonight." She says in an apologetic tone. He lets out a slight chuckle, "It's okay, baby. You're tired. You need rest." He comforts her. He sees a tear slip down her cheek, "What's wrong?" He asks, "I can't even do the most basic thing we're supposed to do on our anniversary." She cries.
He sighs and wraps her up in his arms, "Kate, stop it. We had an amazing anniversary. We ate breakfast together and cuddled and then we had dinner from our favorite diner while watching one of our friend's favorite movies." He says, "Promise you aren't mad? We might be able to squeeze in a quickie before school tomorrow." She says. He shakes his head and kisses her shoulder, "We don't do quickies, babe. To me, they're meaningless, and being intimate with you can never be meaningless." He says.
She turns in his arms and kisses his lips, "I don't know what I'd do without you." She says, "Well, you wouldn't be 17 and pregnant, that's for sure." He jokes. She chuckles, "Speaking of that, I wanted to talk to you about something. You know how we said if baby is a girl she's going to be Sasha Christine?" She asks and he nods, "I think I have a boy name in mind." She says, "What were you thinking?" He asks, "How about Royce Alexander? Named after two of my favorite men in the whole world." She suggests.
He smiles before wrapping his arms around her and kissing her lips, "I love you. More than you will ever know, Katherine Beckett." "I love you too, Richard Castle." "And our little Stella or Royce is going to be loved so much." He says. She nods before kissing him again.
Part 25! Let me know what you think! Is baby Castle a Stella or Royce?
