More than Expected

Part 15

When her alarm goes off at 6:30 this morning, she groans. Today is everyone's first day back at school after break and she did not want to go. Her door opens and she hears her mother's voice, "C'mon, Katie, gotta get up for school." Johanna says. Kate groans. Johanna chuckles, "I know, but you just gotta power through until spring break and then you'll have finals and then is summer." Johanna says as she tucks a curl behind her daughter's ear, "I'll make you waffles." Johanna says, "Fine. I'm up." Kate finally concedes and rolls out of bed.
She takes a quick shower before brushing her teeth and hair. She slips on a pair of leggings and one of Rick's sweatshirts before doing her makeup. True to her mother's word, when she walks downstairs there are waffles waiting for her. "Thanks Mom." Kate smiles as she sits at the table and begins eating her breakfast. Once she's done, she says goodbye to her parents before getting in her car and driving to school. She races into the building to fight against the cold outdoors. She finds all of her friends and her boyfriend standing by the lockers.
She walks into Rick's arms, "Another day back in the hell hole." Lanie says. Everyone giggles. The bell rings and they all make their way to their first classes of the day. It seems to drag on forever before they leave their classes and head to lunch. Luckily, the group finds and inside table to sit at. Kate can't even think about eating since she got a splitting headache during second period, "Babe, you have to eat." Rick tells her, "If I eat, I'm going to throw up." She says. Rick sighs and begins rubbing her back, "Want Advil?" Jenny asks.
Kate shakes her head, "I already took some." Kate tells her. After lunch, the teen drags through the rest of the day before making her way to her car, "Hey, I'm driving." Comes Rick's voice from behind her, "Rick, I'm fine." She says, "Kate, you can barely keep your eyes open. Javi drove me to school so I don't have to worry about my car. Let me drive you home. Let me take care of you." He pushes. She sighs and finally hands him her keys before getting in the passenger seat. He drives her home and helps her inside.
"Where are your parents?" He asks, "Work. They'll be there until nine." Kate tells him, "Does this mean you'll stay?" She asks him. He smiles and nods, "Yeah, I'll stay." He promises. They hear upstairs where she changes into pajamas and climbs into bed. He lays next to her, trapping her between him and the wall. He stripped to his underwear, so Kate clings to the heat that radiates off of her boyfriend. He gently runs a hand through her hair as her eyes drift shut and her breathing evens out.
