More than Expected

     Kate sits on the exam table with a sheet over her bare lower half while her mother sits in a chair across the room as they wait for the doctor to come in and check her. Kate has been feeling anxious all day. They're currently at her weekly check up to see if she's dilated or effaced at all, but at 3:00 this afternoon, Rick comes home from bootcamp. She can't believe she actually made it the whole fourteen weeks without going into labor. He's going to be here for their child's birth.
     Dr. Bells enters the room, "Hi Kate. How're you feeling?" She asks the teenager. "Still pregnant." Kate jokes. The doctor laughs, "But excited I bet. Doesn't a certain soldier come home today?" She asks and Kate smiles before blushing, "Yeah, he comes home at 3:00." She tells her doctor, "Well, looks like you're going to get your wish of him being here for your little one's birth." Dr. Bells says as she takes a seat towards the end of the table, "Put your legs in the stirrups so I can do a quick check." The doctor instructs her.
     Kate lays back and does as her doctor asks her before taking a deep breath. A few minutes later, Dr. Bells stands and takes her gloves off, "Well, Kate, you're 1 cm dilated and about 85% effaced, so you should go into labor within the next couple of days. Now, if you want to speed up the process there are a few things you can try at home. Walking is a big one. Just simply walk around your house, try to avoid inclines because that will just make you tired. You can try spicy foods or castor oil." She says.
     Kate nods along, "And the other thing that works for many women is, sorry mom, sex." Dr. Bells tells the teenager after addressing her apologies to her mother. Kate gets red with embarrassment while Johanna just chuckles, "Well, it's how you ended up here." Johanna teases her daughter. A few moments of awkwardness pass before Dr. Bells checks the baby's heartbeat. Once everything is checked and sounding good, Johanna and Kate head back to the house where they get ready to go pick Rick up. Kate showers, curls her hair, and does her makeup before slipping into a long, black maternity dress.
      Before she knows it, it's 2:30 and Martha is there for all of them to drive to get Rick. When they arrive, they stand and watch the full Army graduation family. When the ceremony is over, the recruits disperse and Kate looks for Rick. "Do you see him?" She asks the adults in a shaky voice. She's been waiting fourteen weeks for this moment and she feels like she might bust at the seems any minute if she doesn't find herself in his arms soon. "There Katie!" Jim says pointing straight ahead.
     Her eyes meet Rick's and she feels the tears coming as she walks as quickly as she can into her love's arms. When his arms wrap around her she finally breaks. His hand cups the back of her skull while he kisses her forehead, "I'm home, baby. I'm home." He whispers. He looks down at her and smiles before pressing his lips to hers, "I missed you." She mumbles into his mouth, "I missed you too. I love you." He whispers, "I love you too." She replies. He smiles and squats down to kiss her bump, "How're you doing, little one?" He asks.
     "Better. We both are." Kate answers. He presses one more kiss to her bump and stands, "You look beautiful." He tells her. She rolls her eyes and pulls him to her again, "I'm so glad you're home." She says. He kisses her cheek before feeling a hand on his back, "Welcome home, Son." Jim says. Rick shakes his hand and hugs him, "Thank you, Sir." Rick then moves to hug his mother, "I'm so proud of you, Kiddo." Martha whispers in his ear, "Thank you, Mother." He smiles. After hugging his mother, he hugs Johanna and then wraps his arms around Kate.
     They all head to dinner and then Rick and Kate head to Martha's for the night, "I'm heading out, Kiddos. You two have fun." Martha says leaving the two kids alone. They migrate upstairs to Rick's bedroom where their lips quickly attach to each other's. They rid Rick of his shirt, but when he moves to undo her dress she pulls away. "Kate? What's wrong?" He asks. "I-I, you haven't seen me naked while this pregnant." She admits. He moves a curl behind her ear, "Hey, you're always beautiful to me. No matter what." He tells her. She shakes her head.
     "Rick, my belly is huge and my boobs are veiny. I have stretch marks and it's been awhile since I've been able to shave down there." She emphasizes the last two words, "So? Baby, you're growing our baby inside of you. Do you not understand how gorgeous that is to me? I don't care about any of the stuff you just listed because it's all effects of you carrying our child. That will always be beautiful to me." He tells her. Tears well up in her eyes and she soon reaches back to unzip her own dress.
     It falls to her feet and he can see how desperate she is to pull it back up and hide herself. He just steps forward and cups her cheek then leans down to press his lips to her neck, "Beautiful. Absolutely divine." He whispers in her ear before nipping at the lobe. She lets out a moan before he lowers them to the bed and he shows her how much he's missed her and how beautiful he truly thinks she is in pregnant form.
