He watches her as she busies herself with wrapping Royce's Christmas gifts. She insisted their little boy have stuff to open on Christmas morning even though he's only shy of three months old and won't remember anything about his first Christmas. The last two weeks have been rough. They've been fighting more than they've been getting along and it got so bad that Kate told him she was questioning moving to North Carolina. That broke him. The few months he'd have to spend without them were going to be torturous, but now knowing they might not move there at all, that would kill him.
That's when he realized they can't keep running around in the same circle. They needed to fix this. They need some time to just be Rick and Kate again, not Mommy and Daddy. Rick knocks on the door and walks into the bedroom, "Where's Royce?" "Mother took him to walk around Rockefeller Center." He answers. "It's 41° outside." She says, "He's all bundled up. I figured this would give us the opportunity to talk about us." He tries before sitting down next to her. "What's there to talk about?" She asks as if nothings wrong.
"Kate, two days ago you told me you don't want to be with me in North Carolina. Do you know how much that breaks my heart?" He asks, "I'll make sure Royce still sees you." She says as she finishes wrapping up another gift and placing it in a pile, "Dammit, Kate, this isn't about Royce!" He finally snaps as he grabs her wrist to halt her from beginning to wrap another gift. She looks at him and pulls her wrist out of his grasp. He apologizes for grabbing her for continuing, "I need to see you, Kate."
He watches as her breath hitches and tears well up in her eyes, "I'm not just with you because we have a son together and I hope to God that's not the only reason you're with me. I'm with you because I actually love you, Kate." He insists. She takes a deep breath as a tear finally falls down her cheek, "I love you too." She replies, "Then can we please talk about whatever the hell is going on between us? I hate fighting with you." He says. She nods, "I don't like fighting with you either. It's just - I'm scared."
"Scared of what?" "Of being on my own. Taking care of our son all by myself. That's something we're supposed to be doing together." She admits, "I know. I'm sorry." "I'm not blaming you. Your job is how you provide for him and me. My mom used to tell me building the family was hard but once you get settled it's the best thing ever. I guess we're just still building ours." She says. "We are, but Kate, that doesn't mean I'm not still as crazy about you as I was when we first met." He tells her.
She looks at him in disbelief, "Really?" "Baby, I still get a million butterflies in my chest when someone so much as mentions you. My pulse races when you enter the room and my heart nearly leaps out of my chest when you touch me. It will always be that way." "I react the same when you're near me. I get a little dizzy when you kiss me and when I hear your heartbeat beneath my ear when we sleep, I feel like the luckiest girl in the world." She tells him. He smiles, "I hope you always feel like that towards me."
"I'm pretty sure I will." She says, "Good because I'm going to marry you one day, Katherine Beckett. One day soon. And then we'll continue building our family, but I want us to still focus on building us. Because one day we'll be empty nesters and stuck with each other." He tells her, "I can't wait to be stuck with you." She giggles as he pulls her into his lap, "Good because you're stuck with me forever." He emphasizes, "Promise?" She asks and he kisses her. "I promise." He replies, "How much longer will your mom be out with Royce?" She asks, "An hour or so."
"Good, so we have some time for Mommy and Daddy time?" She asks with a raised brow. He lifts her off the ground and carries her over to his bed, "We'll make time." He whispers in her ear as he nips at the lobe and kisses down her neck. She giggles as he works her shirt over her head and begins on her jeans while she tugs at his clothes until they're both naked. Before he enters her, he makes sure she's looking up at him. "I love you." He whispers.
"I love you too." She replies and pulls him down for a kiss, "No more fighting." He says and she nods, "No more fighting." She agrees and then grasps his rear in both her hands to move him along. They writhe together before reaching a high that they haven't reached in awhile. He collapses on her after the moment of pure ecstasy and lifts his head enough to smear kisses along her chest. "We can't keep going gaps without that." He whispers, "Gotta get used to it." She breathes out. "There's always phone sex." He teases as he kisses her cheek. She chuckles and pushes his chest until he's on her back.
She props herself up on her side and looks down at him, "I can't wait to be your wife one day, Richard Castle." She admits. "Katherine Beckett, it will be the honor of my life to call myself your husband." He says back. She blushes and shakes her head, "Hey, you're gonna do great with him. And I might not be here, but you know you can call me and I'll help you through it." He assures her and she nods, "I know. Royce has the best Dada."
"And the most remarkable Mama." He rolls her beneath him, "But, as much as I love our son, I love alone time with his Mama just as much." He whispers, "Again already?" "It's been almost three weeks, Babe. I'm insatiable for you." He teases her. She wraps a leg around his hips and flips them until she sits up on top of him, "As I am for you." She moans as he continues worshipping her chest. She leans down and captures his lips in hers, "Now fuck me." She whispers in his ear and they continue the dance they've perfected many times.
