More than Expected

Rick is up first, as usual. He looks around the room of the cabin. It's not his first stay at the Beckett Family Cabin, but it is his first time staying in her room. He looks over at her: she's in a pair of his boxers and one of his Army shirts while her hair is pulled back into a bun. He reaches out to run his hand over her bump and she shuffles in bed before opening her eyes, "Sorry, I didn't mean to wake you." He apologizes. She closes her eyes.
"It's fine." She mumbles sleepily. Her hand reaches down to join his. He leans forward and kisses her forehead before she rolls out of bed, "I have to pee anyways. Your son is resting on my bladder." "Our daughter apologizes." He throws back. She rolls her eyes before making her way to the bathroom. Rick stands and slips on a t-shirt and grabs a pair of sweatpants for his girlfriend to slip on before they both make their way downstairs where they find her parents making waffles, "Good morning." They greet the teens who return the greeting.
"I was thinking we could take the boat out today and go shopping on the strip." Jim offers as the day's plans, "Sounds good." Kate agrees and Rick nods. After breakfast, everyone goes to get ready. After putting on his swim trunks and a t-shirt, Rick finds his girlfriend in her bikini staring at herself from the side in the mirror. "Hi beautiful." He smiles as he steps forward to cup her bump. She sighs before pushing his hands off, "I don't think I'm going to wear a bathing suit." She says, "Why not?" "Because I look fat." She says sadly.
Rick takes a deep breath before stepping behind her and resting his chin on her shoulder, "Kate, you don't look fat. You look pregnant." He assures her, "And it's making me fat." She argues back, "You are growing a human. Our human. That's the most beautiful, magical thing in the world. You're gorgeous all of the time, but seeing you grow as our baby grows has been exceptionally beautiful." He tells her. Tears well up in her eyes as she turns in his arms and buries her face in his chest. "I don't feel beautiful." Her admission comes out muffled.
He kisses her forehead and rubs her back, "I know, but it's my job to make sure that you know you are the most beautiful woman in my eyes. And if you don't know that then I'm doing something wrong." She looks up at him and shakes her head, "You do make me feel beautiful. I just wish I wasn't getting fat." He leans down and presses his lips to hers, "You are the most beautiful pregnant woman I've ever seen. And just think, in six months it will all be worth it." He tells her which makes her smile.
"Yeah, it will be." She agrees. She slips on a shirt and some sandals before they join her parents downstairs. The car ride to the marina is short and then Rick goes to help Jim get the boat prepped while Kate and Johanna buy snacks in the small store, "How're you feeling today, Bug?" Johanna asks, "Fat, ugly, choose your pick." Kate says, "Wait until you get to the very end. You'll feel that way and you'll be uncomfortable. But I think you look great, Honey." Johanna assures her, "Rick was telling me how beautiful I am this morning." She smiles.
     "Good. That's his job." Johanna says. After purchasing the snacks and drinks, they join the men out on the boat and sail into the middle of the lake. The water is a little rough today, so when they stop to float, Rick places his hand on Kate's bump, "You okay?" He asks and she nods, "Yeah, he's tumbling around in there." She answers. Johanna laughs, "It's so funny that you keep saying 'he'." "It's a boy. I know it is." Kate insists, "You're gonna be incredibly embarrassed when you give birth to a girl." Rick says. Kate just rolls her eyes.
After a little while of floating on the water, they dock the boat and decide to stroll around the town center to do some shopping and get some lunch. On their way to lunch, Rick notices his girlfriend walking slower than usual, "What's wrong?" He asks her, "I'm just having a hard time catching my breath." She tells him, "Want to sit for a minute?" He asks as he nods towards the bench. Kate nods and sits as Jim and Johanna notice something is wrong, "Everything alright?" Jim asks, "She's winded." Rick answers from his spot beside her.
Johanna sits on her other side and rubs her back, "Yeah, that can happen, especially the further along you get." Johanna tells her. Kate nods as she stands, "Okay let's go." "You sure?" Rick asks and she nods. They continue walking until they make it to the diner. They all enjoy burgers and milkshakes before heading back to the cabin. Rick and Kate head to her room, "I'm going to take a shower." She tells him. He steps behind her and kisses her neck, "Want some help?" He whispers in her ear. She shrugs him off, "No, I'll be fine."
Rick backs off and watches her disappear behind the bathroom door. He sighs before grabbing his stuff and going to shower in the guest bathroom down the hall. When he enters, he finds her crying in the bed, "What's wrong?" "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said 'no' to you coming in the shower with me. I just don't feel like having sex right now." She apologizes. He sits across from her and wipes her cheeks, "Baby, that's okay. I wasn't going to initiate sex. I just wanted some alone time with you. Did I do something the last time we had sex? Something you didn't like?" He asks.
"No, God no. I just don't know what's wrong with me. I think it's the hormones, but I just don't feel like it. I don't feel sexy enough to have sex." She tells him. Rick leans down and kisses her forehead, "For the record, you're the most gorgeous, sexiest, adorable, beautiful woman on the face of the planet. If we never had sex again I would still be unimaginably in love with you, Katherine Beckett. Sex doesn't define our relationship." He tells her. She looks up at him and smiles, "How'd I get this lucky?" "Trust me, babe, I'm the lucky one." He promises before leaning down and kissing her. He lays and in bed and pulls her down to hold her in his arms, "Get some sleep." He prompts. And she does.
