More than Expected

Part 44

She looks herself over in the mirror for probably the fiftieth time that morning. She somehow squeezed back into her pre-pregnancy jeans and is wearing a grey ARMY hoodie. Her hair falls in their natural curls while she's done her makeup for the first time in what feels like forever and on her feet are her black chucks. She feels two strong arms wrap around her and her gaze meets his in the mirror. "You look beautiful. Just like always." He whispers before kissing her cheek. She smiles and turns in his arms before kissing him.
"I'm gonna miss you and our little guy today." She says. "We'll miss you too. But he'll be with Mother all day and then you'll go pick him up, come back here, and by the time you get settled into schoolwork with him, I'll be home to disrupt your studying." Rick jokes before kissing her forehead. "I'm going to enjoy you disrupting my studying cause in fifteen days you won't be here to do that anymore." She says. He sighs. "I know, but the time will go fast. You'll be so busy with prom and graduation. Before you know it, you'll be graduating and in North Carolina with me and you'll be mine forever." He says as he squeezes her tighter and kisses her neck.
She giggles as his kisses tickle. "Okay, okay. Give me a kiss. I have to get going." She says. He tilts her chin up and pulls her in for a deep kiss. "I love you. Have a good first day back. I'll see you tonight okay?" He asks she she nods. "I love you too." She walks over to the bassinet and lifts Royce, "Say 'bye Dada'." Kate coos. Rick kisses his son's forehead.
      "Bye Buddy. Have a good day with Grandma." He whispers and then kisses Kate again before helping her load him and both his and her stuff into the car. She waves as she drives off towards Martha's appointment. Once she drops the baby off and finally gets the courage to walk away from her little boy, she makes her way to school. When she first gets there, she goes to guidance to get her printed schedule and locker assignment. She's at her locker when she feels an uneasy presence near her. She turns around and her eyes widen when she sees Josh.
     "So you really did it, huh? You let that out-of-towner knock you up?" He asks. She rolls her eyes, "Get out of here, Josh." She says before turning back around and grabbing her binders, "I can't believe you let that man touch you and all I was allowed to do was see your tits." He steps closer behind her, "Hey! Back up. And don't talk about my boyfriend like that!" She insists, "Kate, we both know he's in it for the ass." Josh says as his hand reaches down to cup her backside. She pushes his chest.
     "Don't ever touch me again." She seethes before rushing towards her first class. Her schedule was stacked this semester: AP Art History, AP Calculus B + C, AP Literature, and AP Government and Politics. Kate just wants to get through the next four and a half months so that she can graduate and her and Royce can go be with Rick for the rest of their lives. She goes throughout the day just focusing on getting back into the groove of school. Once the final bell rings, she rushes out to her car and drives to Martha's apartment. The door opens and she sees her baby boy in his grandmother's arms.
       "Baby!" She exclaims as she reaches out and takes the baby from Martha's arms. "He was wonderful, dear! He ate three bottles and slept on and off for about three and a half hours. How was your first day?" "It was okay. It's definitely an adjustment. Thank you so much for watching him." Kate says, "Of course, darling. I need to spend as much time with him as I can since my son insisted on making a career out of something that moves him around the country." Martha jokes.
     Kate laughs, "Well, thank you again. We'll see you tomorrow and Rick and I will be here this weekend. Love you." Kate says as she leans in and accepts a kiss on the cheek from Martha. "Goodbye, dear, and goodbye my baby boy. I'll see you tomorrow." They finally part ways and Kate drives Royce home. Once they're back at her house, she takes her son upstairs where she nurses him until he falls asleep and then begins working on her homework. She's almost done with her homework when her bedroom door opens and her boyfriend walks though the entryway.
     "Hi!" She smiles as she stands on her bed and jumps into his arms. Her legs wrap around his waist and he smiles, "Hi beautiful. Did you have a good day?" He asks. She shrugs, "Josh was a dick this morning, but other than that it was perfect." She tells him. He sets her down on her feet and runs his hand up and down her neck and cheek, "What did Josh do?" He asks, "Just your typical 'why are you with him?' 'he's with you for your ass' blah, blah, blah." She tells him. He frowns and kisses her forehead.
      "I'm sorry." He whispers, "It's okay. I know the foundation of our relationship, and I'm very happy you knocked me up because I love our little family." She tells him confidently. He smiles, "We love you too. You're the best mama and wife two guys could ask for." He says. She rolls her eyes and buries her face into his neck, "Not your wife." She reminds him. He shrugs, "You will be." He promises and presses on more kiss to her temple.
