April 1, 2015
Today he turns 21. Today is a big milestone in his life. But all he can focus on is that he's six days away from being home with his family and a month away from marrying the love of his life. He can't wait for the day he gets to wrap his fiancée and son up in his arms. These last nine months have been hell without them: watching the depression seep out of Kate and being forced to see Royce grow through a phone screen. "Ricky, come on, man! Last week of the tour!" A buddy yells. Rick smiles and sends Kate a text before joining his friends: I miss you. Be home soon.

They all stand in the airport. Her parents and Martha flew down a few days ago to greet Rick. They also agreed to take Royce for the evening. This means she and Rick get the apartment to themselves tonight. "Do you see him?" Martha asks. She shakes her head, "Not yet." There are tons of people walking through the gate. Royce is currently in Johanna's arms so Kate can greet Rick without jostling the sleeping baby around.
"Katie! There!" Jim points ahead. She sees him. His tall figure with that floppy brown hair and sparkling blue eyes. "Rick." She whispers. "Go, Kate, go!" Johanna exclaims. Tears stream down her cheeks as she takes off. She's running to him. His smile gets bigger and his legs speed up as they get closer. Then, there's no distance between them. She's jumping into his arms. Her arms around his neck, her legs around his waist, and his arms supporting her. "Rick." She cries into his shoulder. "Hi beautiful. I'm here. I'm here." He whispered. A sob escapes from her throat then.
"How're you doing?" He asks her with a laugh. She doesn't answer, just tightens are grasp on him. "I missed you. I missed you." She whispers. She unwraps her legs and lowers her feet on the ground. He presses a kiss to her cheek, "I missed you too, baby. I missed you both so much." She pulls back and cups his cheeks before kissing him. Finally. She's waited nine months for this. She makes sure not to let the kiss get too indecent knowing their parents are nearby. When they break apart, she looks into his eyes and smiles.
"Wanna see your son?" She whispers and he nods enthusiastically. She wastes no time wedging her hand in his as they make their way towards their parents. "Look whose awake." Johanna says as she passes Royce back to Kate. The one and a half year old looks up at his father and then at his mother and then back at Rick. He smiles. "Dada." He laughs as he points at his dad. Rick smiles as he reaches out for his son who happily goes to him. As Rick holds Royce in his arms, he lets a few tears shed down his cheeks.
Kate rests her head against his arm before he wraps it around her causing her head to land on his chest. They stay like this for several minutes before Rick composes himself enough to greet his mother and soon-to-be-in-laws. "We're going to take Royce for the night." Johanna tells Rick after they get his luggage from baggage claim. "So we can have a night alone." Kate whispers to him. He smiles down at her and winks before nodding to Johanna. When they get to the parking lot, Royce is once again asleep.
Rick settles the boy into his car seat in the back of Jim and Johanna's rental car while Martha slips into the backseat with him. "We'll see you tomorrow for breakfast, dears." Martha says. They nod and then make their way to Kate's car. Rick puts his luggage in the trunk before they settle in the front two seats. She immediately pulls him in for another kiss. He smiles into their kisses before they pull apart for air. Their foreheads rest against each others. "God, I missed you so much." She whispers. "I missed you too, beautiful. I'm so happy to be home."
"Let's go home." She says. She drives them home. The whole ride has a tension filled silence. They know what's causing the tension and the minute they get home they will remedy how to fix it. Once she parks, he grabs his bags and they make their way into the apartment. He looks around, "Home sweet home." He says. He drops the back pack that he was wearing on the kitchen floor and then turns to Kate. She looks up into his eyes and smiles, "Welcome home." She whispers. He lurches for her then. He captures her lips in his while his hands travel down to her backside. She jumps in order to wrap herself around him.
"Remember where the bedroom is?" She teases before nibbling his lower lip. He chuckles, "If you think I spent nine months without thinking about you in our bed every night, you're horribly mistaken Mrs. Castle." He whispers. He walks them towards their room and deposits her on the bed. "Not Mrs. Castle yet." She reminds him as she wiggles her fourth finger which only adorns her engagement ring. He pulls her legs until they're splayed over his thighs, "One more month." He whispers and then he lowers himself on top of her and kisses her lips. Their first time back together is quick. Not rough, not unromantic, but it's been a long nine months. Their second time is a lot slower, they relearn each other as they both continually ache for the relief they were denied. Their third round takes place in their shower early the next morning when Rick insists he needs to get rid of the plane air. Their fourth time isn't in a bed or in the shower, it's on their bedroom floor because they're too excited to make it to the bed. And they finish their reunion with a final fifth round of her in his lap against their headboard before they both collapse into a much needed slumber.
