More than Expected

Part 14

She was so excited to go out. Two days after Christmas, Kate had woken up with a fever and sore throat. After a hospital visit, it was determined that she had caught strep throat and was given antibiotics to get rid of the bacteria in her system. Four days later and she's feeling back to 100% and ready to ring in the new year with Rick and her friends. She, however, couldn't drink because she was still taking medication to make sure the strep bacteria was completely cleared out of her body. But she didn't need to drink to have fun.
She just needed her handsome man. As if he could tell she was thinking about him, her doorbell is rung. She walks over and opens it to find him on the other side, "Hey beautiful." He greets her with a smile, "Hi." She replies, "How're you feeling?" "A lot better." She tells him, "A lot better, huh?" He asks and she nods with a smile. "Yeah, completely back to 100%." "I love hearing that. I hate when you're sick." He tells her, "Well, kick whoever's ass gave me strep." She says, "Oh, believe me, I will."
She giggles, "Ready to go?" She asks and he nods, "Let's go ring in the new year." He says. On the ride to the party, she thinks about the past year. It was one of the best and worst years of her life. Losing Royce is something she doesn't think she'll ever recover from. She's just now starting to find peace in not being able to call him or receive one of his hugs. On the flip side, entering this relationship with Rick was her saving grace of the year. He truly has become her best friend in every sense.
He pulls up outside of the party and helps her out of the car, "Ready?" He asks and she nods with a smile. She can't wait to see what the upcoming year holds. She's going to have some challenges to face: Rick's graduating in June and then joining the Army later that month. The separation will be rough, but she knows they'll be okay. She'll be focused on finishing her last year of high school and applying to colleges, so hopefully it will be enough to distract her from her boyfriend's absence. She is shaken from her thoughts when Lanie wraps her up in a hug.
"Girl, I haven't seen you in a minute!" Lanie exclaims, "I know. Christmas came and then I got sick. Sorry Lane." Kate apologizes, "Are you feeling better?" Lanie asks, "Way better. But I can't drink tonight cause of the medicine." Kate says, "I think you two will still manage to have fun tonight." Lanie says before raising her eyebrows, "Lanie!" Kate scolds as Rick chuckles. Lanie walks away while Rick leans in from behind, "She's not wrong." He whispers in her ear before pressing a gentle kiss to her neck. Kate giggles, "I know."
They move deeper into the crowd where they find Ryan and Jenny. They greet their friends before Rick goes to grab Kate and himself sodas, "You're not drinking?" She asks. He shakes his head, "I gotta drive and I'm carrying precious cargo tonight." He tells her before winking at her. She blushes before resting against his chest. His hand rests over her ass, not in a possessive way, but an affectionate way. It's hours later when half the party is passed out or have gone to have sex. It's thirty seconds until the ball drops, "Ready for 2013?" Rick asks.
Kate nods, "Yeah, I'm ready." She says as she turns in his arms and everyone begins counting:

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
Rick pulls Kate as close as humanly possible to him before letting his lips descend upon hers. They both smile into the sweet kiss. "Happy New Year." He whispers, "Happy New Year. I love you." She replies, "Love you more." He argues, "Oh yeah? How about you take me to your place and I show you what I packed in my bag and then we can debate who loves whom more." She teases.
He grabs her hand and drags her to his car as she giggles. He all but speeds home. When they arrive to his apartment, they make their way up to his room, wrapped around each other. They break apart so he can close the door and she stops him before they continue their make out session, "I have to change into your surprise." She says, "Kate, how about later? Can we do this first?" He basically begs, "Ah ah ah." She says wagging her finger, "Patience." She tells him before entering his bathroom where she changes into the lingerie Lanie convinced her to buy on Black Friday.
The wait was totally worth it. When she steps out of the bathroom, his jaw hits the floor. "What do you think?" She asks. He stands and walks over to her, wrapping her in his arms, "You're a fucking goddess." He tells her. She giggles as he lifts her and carries her over to his bed before dropping her on it and covering his body with hers. It's not long before they're both rid of their clothing and clinging to each other during multiple passionate rounds of love making.
It's almost 2:30 in the morning when she's resting agains his chest, "We're so good at that." She says, "Best I've ever had." He tells her, "You're the only I've ever had. The only I ever will have." She tells him. He leans down and kisses her, "You and me forever, baby." He promises her, "Always." She says, "Always." He responds before kissing her again. He trails his kisses down her body until he's in between her legs, "You're going to kill me one day." She jokes as he begins worshipping her center, "I think you've already killed me because I swear in between your legs is heaven." He tells her.
Those are the last full, coherent words either of them speak for the rest of the evening.
