More than Expected

    Her mother, Martha, Lanie, and Jenny flew in yesterday so that today they could go look at wedding dresses. "Do you know what dress you're looking for, Katie?" Johanna asks as they sit at the small breakfast resturant. "Something that will definetly be comfortable in hot weather since the wedding will be outside in May." Kate answers, "I think something with lace would look amazing on you, Kate." Lanie says as she takes a bite of her home fries. Kate smiles as her baby babbles in her lap. He's 10 months old today and she still can't get over it.
      "You okay, darling?" Martha asks. Kate smiles, "He's 10 months old today." She says, "I still can't believe you're a mom." Jenny says, "I know. It's the best thing ever." "Are you guys going to have another one?" Lanie asks. "Rick talks about it all the time and I thought it would take years for me to want to do it again, but now that he's almost one and Rick is gone, it makes me want another little one in the house." Kate says. "Well, I think I speaks for your parents and myself when I say we are always excited for the possibility of a little one." Martha says as Johanna nods.
     Once they're done with breakfast, the women make their way to the wedding boutique. When they arrive, Kate meets with a consultant and is taken back to a fitting room after she passes Royce to her mother. "So, tell me about your fiancée." The consultant says when she and Kate are back in a fitting room. "Well, he's my high school sweetheart and he's in the Army. He's currently deployed and our wedding is in May." "Was that adorable little boy yours?" She asks.
     "Yes, that's our son, Royce. He's our little surprise. I got pregnant at 17, but we wouldn't change a thing." Kate says. "Sounds like a whirlwind. So, what kind of dresses are you interested in?" "Well, I don't want something to heavy because our wedding is outside in the beginning of summer so it will be hot." "Alright, let me go grab some and I'll be back in a few minutes." The consultant says. Kate looks around at the room and she had to pinch herself to remind her that this is real. She's sitting in a dressing room about to try on wedding dresses at 18.
     She never thought that's what she'd be doing at this age. She thought she would be on her way to Stanford to follow her mother's footsteps in becoming a civil rights attorney, but she wouldn't change this life path for anything. She loves her little family too much. The consultant, Emma, returns shortly with three dresses. "Alright, this first one I picked out is a Rebecca Ingram gown. It's a satin corset back with a soft scoop neckline and spaghetti straps. I'll have you try it on and see if you like it or not." Emma says.
      With the consultant's help, Kate slips the dress over her head and gets the buttons buttoned, "What do you think?" Emma asks from behind her, "It's pretty, I just don't know if it's what I'm looking for." Kate says, "Alright, would you like to try another one?" She nods. The dress is taken off and put back on a hanger before Emma unzips the next one and shows it to Kate. "I think you'll like the third option the best, but I just want to show this to you." Emma says before describing the gown.
     "This is a Morilee gown. It's a mermaid style with a drop waist bodice and an exaggerated neckline accompanied by lace pattering and a tulle skirt with some dramatic off the shoulder sleeves." Emma says, "It's beautiful and I love the lace, but it's too dramatic for me." Kate answers and Emma nods, "I thought it would be. This brings me to option three which I think you'll really like." Emma opens the garment bag to show Kate the dress. "This is designed by Essence of Australia. It's a fit and flare, v-neck with lace on soft crepe with tulle."
     Her breath is taken away at the sight of the dress. "Would you like to try it on?" She can do nothing but nod. Emma helps her slip the dress on and tears are brought to Kate's eyes. "This is it." She says, "It looks beautiful on you. Would you like to show your family?" Emma asks and Kate nods, "Alright, we'll add a veil out there so that they can get the whole picture." Emma says as she carries the dress' train behind Kate as she walks. When Kate sees her mother, she knows she feels the same way about the dress.
     "Katie, it's beautiful." Johanna gasps, "Girl, you're going to make your man pass out before you even get to the altar." Lanie compliments and Kate chuckles. "Katherine, I agree, you're stunning." "Rick is not gonna know what hit him." Martha and Jenny add. The veil is added to Kate's hair which makes them all gasp once more, "If you don't get this dress, Imma smack you." Lanie threatens, "Kate, how do you feel?" Emma asks. "It's perfect." She says with probably the biggest smile on her face since Rick proposed and Royce was born. "Is this the one?"
     "This is the one." She did it! She found her wedding dress! Now all she had to do was wait 288 days to wear this dress down the aisle and marry the man of her dreams.
