Kate and Rick sit in the exam room as the ultrasound tech completes their anatomy scan. "Alright, looks like the little one's hands are up by their face. There is their nose and lips. There's the spine and their legs. Would you two like to know the gender?" The technician asks. "No, we want it to be a surprise." Kate answers. The ultrasound technician nods and turns the machine so that the parents can't see it, "Okay, I'm going to look to put in your folder and then when I turn it back around we'll look at the little one's organs."
Kate looks at Rick and smiles as they patiently wait for the ultrasound technician to turn the monitor back around. After a few minutes of silence, the monitor is turned back around and they look at the baby's organs. Once the ultrasound is complete, they are taken to Kate's doctor's office where they sit and wait for her doctor to come in and explain the results of their anatomy scan. About twenty minutes after they take seats in her office, Dr. Bells walks in, "Hello. How are we doing today?" She asks.
They both respond with that they're doing good, "So, I understand that you don't want to know the gender correct?" She asks, "Yes, we'd like for it to be a surprise." Kate responds. "Okay, so then this will just be the logistics. I am happy to tell you that your little one is measuring at 10.7 inches long which is in the 93rd percentile. Your gestational diabetes test came back negative and so did your cystic fibrosis test. Overall, you have a healthy growing little one inside of you." Dr. Bells says with a smile. Rick and Kate share a smile.
They receive their sonograms and then head back to her house to get ready for tonight. Tonight is Rick's senior prom. Kate does curls her hair and pulls some strands back so that they're out of her face before she does her makeup complete with a red lip. Then, with the help of her mom, she slips into her dress. It's red sequin with a slit up her left leg that has some fringe down it, "Katie, you look beautiful." Johanna says with tears in her eyes. Kate smiles, "Thank you, Mom. Can you grab my shoes?" She asks.
Johanna grabs the red sequin flats and helps her daughter slip them on. Once she's ready, they walk downstairs where Rick is. He's dressed in a nice suit with a red tie, "Kate, you look gorgeous." He says. She smiles as she walks over to him, "I don't look fat?" She asks. He rolls his eyes and kisses her forehead before leaning down and kissing her bump, "No, this is your best accessory." He says as he rubs her belly, "I think I've got some pretty good arm candy." She teases. They exchange corsages and boutonnières before walking out to Rick's truck.
"You two have fun." Johanna says as Jim waves. When they arrive at prom, they find their friends already on the dance floor, but Kate can't focus on that as she realizes everyone is focused on her, "Rick." She says tugging on his arm. Rick stops his conversation with Javier and looks around. He sees the others whispering and pointing towards her bump. Lanie and Jenny try to stand in front of Kate to block everyone's view, "C'mon." Rick says as he tugs them to the dance floor, "Rick, where are we going?" She asks her boyfriend anxiously.
"It's prom. We're dancing." He says. Before she knows it, they're in the middle of an empty dance floor swaying to the song:
I'm falling harder than I've
Ever fell before
I'm falling fast while hoping
I'll land in your arms
'Cause all my time is spent here
Longing to belong
To you
"Everyone's staring." She says, "Let them. I'm not ashamed and you shouldn't be either." He assures her, "How can I not be? I feel like a freak show." She says, "You're not, baby. You and I created a life while showing each other how much we love each other." He tells her.
I dream of circles perfect
Eyes within your face
My heart's an open wound that
Only you'd replace
And though the moon is rising
Can't put your picture down
Love can be frightening when you fall
"But that's not what everyone else sees. They see two stupid teenagers who forgot to use protection." She tells him, "Who cares what other people think? I'm gonna marry you one day, Katherine Beckett. And when we do, we'll make everyone whoever laughed at us a laughing stock." He tells her. She smiles before pulling him down for a kiss.
And when the time is right, I
Hope that you'll respond
Like when the wind gets tired
The ocean becomes calm
I may be dreaming but I'm
Longing to belong
To you
"Can we, um, get out of here? There is a prom tradition I would like to fulfill with you." She says with a glimmer of something in her eyes he hasn't seen in awhile. Rick nods and they depart from their friends to go up to one of the rooms they rented out in the hotel the prom was being held in. Up in their room, they're basically animals.
Their mouths are locked as their hands roam freely. When they're both naked, she's straddling his lap as they are settled on the bed, "Let's never go this long without doing this again." She whispers in his ear before peppering kisses down his neck. Their night is the perfect prom night.
Part 26! The song is 'Longing to Belong' by Eddie Vedder and it's one of my favorites! Please comment!
