From afar, gelid rain poured down onto the waiting sidewalk below. It engrossed in the pavement, splashing over the soles of Vincent's shoes. He strode down the sidewalk in a hurry, panicked to be late to his job again. His boss would surely fire him, he'd been late about ten times already, maybe more.

It was right before dawn at the moment, no one was around; sleeping soundly in their houses. Though, Vincent always felt... what's the word? Paranoid. Very paranoid. The hairs would always stand up on the back of his neck as he rapidly paced to the coffee shop.

Most likely it was just an animal watching him, he really was too anxious.

Vincent approached the broad store, the faint smell of coffee arising from the atmosphere. It was pleasant to his nerves, so he eagerly began to unlock one of the shop's doors to start his morning shift. But the sudden shift of footsteps behind him startled him.

"Vincent!" An abrupt squeak sounded, Vincent snapped his head around to it wide-eyed.

He let out a scoffing grunt when he saw the familiar amber eyes, "Jesus Christ, Afton. Stop sneaking up at me like that, especially at this time of day..." He sighed, giving William a faint glare.

William gave a brief smug smile, "Technically at this time of night." He shrugged.

"Yeah, whatever, same different thing.." He grumbled, shuffling his hands around as he struggled to unlock the doors. He finally pushed it open after a few attempts, "Why are you even awake at this hour? Don't you have school?"

"Nope! I got the day off, which means my parents won't come to check on me. So I snuck out to see you! I mean, you shouldn't even mind, I'm not some burden you have to deal with everyday." William exclaimed to Vincent's question, following him inside the coffee shop with an ear to ear beam.

"Speak for yourself.." The man muttered under his breath, "Come on, you can sit at one of the tables in the front. I'm going in the back to prepare some things." He added on, guiding William to a seat.

From then on, only one customer came. A blue-eyed woman and her kid, she ordered some black coffee and headed out. William found her a bit irritating, and loud. Gimping time with Vincent as much as she could. Hogging time that he could've spent with Vincent.

When she left, William happily turned back toward Vincent. "She was annoying huh?" He grinned at Vincent's furrowed brow.

"Wouldn't stop talking.." Vincent carped tiredly, now busy washing the counters with a water rag, wringing it in a bucket of soapy water.

William agreed with a small nod before yawning, "Is there anywhere else I can stay?" The teen groaned as the bright lights above him blocked his chance to lounge and sleep.

Vincent perked his head up, pondering. "The back, I guess. It's cramped but it can do." Vincent put a hand to William and William took it with eagerness, butterflies fluttering in his stomach.

He led the other boy into the back of the shop, parting their hands. "I'll just stay here for now as well if you don't mind," Vincent muttered, reaching his hands back to untie his apron.

William watched as he tossed it over an oven, "What about customers?" He queried.

"The bell will ring," Vincent replied, resting his back against the walls; gleaming from the recent paint job.

William's gaze rolled all over the circumambient, realizing it was more of a place where they store and reprepare the baked goods. "Lots of food and coffee stuff," he mumbled.

"Well, duh silly," Vincent uttered a light chuckle, looking back at Afton as he noticed his lips parting.

".. Aren't we going to get in trouble? Like, if someone catches me back here? I'm not exactly an employee.." William trailed off suddenly, scratching the back of his head nervously.

Although, Vincent just rolled his eyes at his statement. "See that little cabinet over there." He pointed to it as he spoke.

William nodded.

"Or that box over there?" He changed his pointer finger over to it.

William nodded again.

"You can hide in there, midget." Vincent finished with a laugh, hearing William's annoyed scoff.

"That's not even funny." He glared at Vincent, raising an eyebrow as Vincent sat up straight.

The bell rang, corresponding to Vincent's action, standing and walking out the back in a haste. Leaving William there to feel lonely once again.
