William descended down the creaky staircase into the dimly-lit basement, it had become nightfall now and William had decided to check on his husband. He was already conducting strategies to persuade Vincent to abandon his nocturnal habits and join him in bed.

It seemed that sleep was a foreign concept to his husband, who often preferred to stay awake until dawn without a single touch of rest.

However, as he reached the bottom of the stairs, he was met with an unexpected sight. There, sprawled across the worn couch, lay Vincent, his usual lively attitude replaced by the peaceful stillness of slumber. The soft glow of the basement lamp illuminated his features, casting gentle shadows across his face.

Surprised yet strangely comforted by the sight, William couldn't help but smile as he approached Vincent. The man's blonde hair was a mess and wasn't tied up, loosely resting against his face. His clothes were wrinkly and his tie was even slightly undone, indicating Vincent had easily fallen asleep; to be honest, the man didn't sleep for two to three days at a time.

Carefully, William lowered himself onto the cushions beside Vincent, his movements small so as not to disturb the hushed tranquility that enveloped the room. As he settled in beside him, he couldn't resist the urge to brush a blonde piece of hair out of his husband's face and stroke his pale cheek lovingly.

Leaning back against the couch, William closed his eyes, basking into the quiet stillness of the darkened room and the soft rhythm of Vincent's fond breathing; easing the knots in his chest and mind. He leaned into Vincent's body, even though the man was asleep, William felt protected and loved in his embrace.

In that moment, any remaining thoughts of waking Vincent up and taking him to their bedroom faded into the background, replaced by sweet thoughts of how much gratitude and possessiveness he had for the man he lay on.
